Seems a team of original Elder Scrolls devs is working on a spiritual successor to Daggerfall, The Wayward Realms.

OOOoooooh I just started playing a heavily patched version of daggerfall.
a spiritual successor would be amazing.
Probably wont see much about this for a few years. There aren't even any pre-Alpha videos on it yet. I doubt the framework is even created yet.

I'm assuming you're playing Daggerfall Unity. I was also very excited staring out, then I added several mods, then a new version got released, the mods stopped working with the new version, and I abandoned it. But those first 20 hours playing, were pure nostalgic bliss.
Oooooh yes!
Hopefully they'll get rid of some of the bad design ideas in Daggerfall, namely doing long, hard quests (in huge dungeons) and then being rewarded with something pathetic like 100 gold (and no XP).

I wonder if it will have a huge, mainly procedurally generated, world like Daggerfall or they will stick to a smaller handcrafted world like most modern games. Daggerfall's huge open world was a nice idea but its implementation was flawed in many aspects (it's not an easy thing to manage, in any case)

Procedural generation (though technically speaking DF didn't have this, the dungeons are the same every time you play the game) would absolutely be the right choice for a indie game with limited budget and small team, that way they can create a huge world with limited resources, the same way the original DF was created.

No, The original Dos Version. haha
Very excited to see this. Will want to follow development. Imo, Daggerfall is still one of the all-time great gaming achievements for player freedom and open world. Any game aspiring to be like Daggerfall, is going in the right direction.
A Vision Becoming Reality (The Wayward Realms coming May 2024 to Kickstarter)

"A spirtual successor to the Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, The Wayward Realms, a medieval fantasy roleplaying game led by industry veterans Ted Peterson & Julian Lefay, that aims to bring the "old-school" design philosophies of Classic RPGs together with the latest technology and quality of life improvements, courtesy of Unreal Engine 5.

So what does scope mean? Infinitely generic copy-pasta like most of Daggerfall? =P

Honestly, I can't say I'm all that optimistic about a project that took over four years just to reach a Kickstarter campaign point that is in turn just for an early access version while they're shopping around for a publisher to fund a full game.

Oh, probably mechanic creep. More bells, whistles, and greebles.

The problem with a lot of these developers from the 90s coming out to do projects again is that a lot of them haven't done a project since the 90s, and in many cases, their roles in said projects was ephemeral or managerial at best.

Richard Garriot, Tommy Tallarico, Doug Wing-- I mean TenNepal, Yu Suzuki, and several others have presented what would at first glance, be a very appealing idea.

Then you realize they haven't made a game in over 20 years, and in some cases, there's damn good reason for that.
