Not sure what it's all about?

Have you heard the word?
The word is that we get the chance to work with Larian Studios to design an NPC character in their about-to-win-kickstarter sequel, Divinity: Original Sin 2 - a unique in-game character, the #GOGHero, complete with a backstory and private motivations to intertwine with the players' fates.

Well. YOU get to design them.

Because the more is always the merrier, we're handing the #GOGHero over to you, the gamers, and everyone is welcome to pitch in with their ideas! The entire gaming community is invited to a massive brainstorming session with Larian Studios & GOG.com, and to submit their own ideas for the upcoming character.

For a touch of authenticity, Larian is providing official guidelines to work with - just like the ones they use during development. Fun, but optional:

--Each character has 3 major traits: Vanity, aggression, pride, self-confidence, racist towards dwarves/elves/humans/orcs/sourcerers...
--1 Quirk or Eccentricity: A predilection for dogs in leather boots, refuses to face north for religious reasons, in denial about his singing.
--One Fear/Loss/Block/Wound: Something traumatic in their background for which they are compensating in some way, or which drives them to do something normal people don't. His wife was killed in a tragic accident and now he's a kamikaze detective with a death wish. His parents were murdered by a criminal so now he's a vigilante crime-fighter. He's terrified of intimacy so treats women terribly. That kind of thing.
--Race: Human, dwarf, elf, lizard, undead.
--Background: Gender, age, job function, loyalties.

Throughout the brainstorm, the team from Larian, including creative director Swen Vincke among others, will be joining in us to browse, weigh in, and search for inspiration! Finally, when the time comes, they'll design three final characters combining the awesomest ideas, complete with official concept art and backstory. Once again, the #GOGHero will be placed in your hands with an official vote to chose the favorite champion from the three proposals. The winning character will go on to become the community-made, full-featured NPC in Divinity 2: Original Sin.

This is so damn neat-o.

Well, please don't mind if I do.

Name: Greta Orichalium Geld (the name is a subject to possible changes).
Gender/Race: Female Undead.
Age: about 200 or 300 years.
Loyalties: only to her own pet skeletal animals, books and her collection of rare golden spoons.

Job: an Undead hermit, who spends most of her time reading books from her collection and when she wants a new one she sends her pets to... "borrow" some. Her only other treasure is her collection of golden spoons which got stolen and to find them she joins the PC's (if she is a possible party member) or asks PC's for help (if she is a quest giver).

Quirk: always tries to feed her pets as if they are alive and is always mad with them because they don't eat anything (with them being skeletons and all).

Loss/Wound: During her time being alive, she was accused of possesing a book created by demons (which it wasn't) and was burned together with it. Now she is kind of affraid of fire.

3 Major traits: sounds and acts mostly like old and kind woman, protective of her pets and books, dislikes crowds of uneducated, overly-religious people (such people burned her).
He should be an human with a GOGbear pet :D

race: human (even if some says he has no life, he's no undead).

traits: he's brave but a bit lazy. He hates humans not rebelling against the evil DRM guild.

quirk: hoarder - he loves collecting ancient loot, even old crap that nobody wants. (lol)

fear\loss\wound: he has been tricked by his old friend Steum, who framed him and then tried to kill him with hidden DRM traps.

background: after being betrayed, he fled his country, followed by the DRM assassins who managed to reach him in a forest.
They were going to kill him, when suddenly the mythical creature GOGbear appeared and saved him!
It has become his faithful companion, since then.
Our hero, then, started wandering the land, accepting various (good) quests to rebuild his fortune.
He hopes that he'll be able to return to his land one day, to defeat the DRM reign forever.

It's great that D:OS2 gets a little bit of attention on GOG... I hope this will cause more people to see how promising this kickstarter campaign looks, and add their support in these last 21 hours of the campaign... so that the final stretch goal (Game Master mode) can also be reached...

On a sidenote:

paladin181: Great... What about the Divinity Enhanced edition? Is that still a thing?
Yes, that's still very much a thing. And everyone who owns Divinity OS will get the Enhanced Edition for free (looks like The Witcher started a trend here :) )
How about an undead priest who use to hunt the undead when he was alive. In undeath, he is in denial that he is undead and hunts his own kind.
Chromtox Widebottom the second

Major Traits: 1) Impossible to give in to threats/blackmails. It doesn't matter if he knows he is going to end up in a pit, he can't help it, if you threaten or blackmail him, he will not accept it, he will fight back, to the death/humiliation.
2) Always tries to find a non peaceful solution, even if it is a potentially easy solution. Peace and love above all.
3) Always regrets pursuing a peaceful way out of an argument when it succeeds and ends up fighting the other entity. Even if it means it was the smart thing to do in the first place.

One Fear: Fearful of farting in public. As a kid he was approaching a girl he liked, only to unleash the most loud and smelly fart of all time. Since then he appears shy when talking to the other sex. In reality he is not shy, just very very worried he will fart again.

Race: Undead.

Background: Male, 30s, A paladin (like) in his mind, but a selfish warrior at heart. His loyalties lie with himself and profit. Unless it is about the girl he was in love with as a kid. Damn you fart!

JUST PUT CIRI IN, BACKGROUND STORY ''ONE OF HER JOURNEYS FLEEING THE WILD HUNT!''

He shoud probably be able to escape any cell/chains. He shoud be selfless and always help other characters with potions and healing. He shoud be able to buff high level veteran characters more.
Name: Griswald Of Gorgombert (Grizzly for short #GOGbear)

Traits
Thinks he is very high up (vanity), and is very aware of his pride. He will not be insulted in the least. You could add that if you do, you go into combat with him. He is very racist against Lizards, as he thinks they are a nuissance, and a danger to the integrity of Rivellon.

Eccentricity:
Baths in lizard blood (as in the animal, not the race), as he claims it helps for his skin. This also makes him very hated among the lizard empire. Also loves fine cheeses.

Fear:
He is deathly afraid of cats. They are furry creatures of DOOM, DEATH AND DESPAIR!

Race:
Dwarf (A very small dwarf, that is)

Background:
Gender: Male
Age: I don't know how old dwarves get in the Larian universe, so I'll go with "old".
Job: Divine magister, who lives in a gigantic villa. He is leader of the Dwarven division, and is know for many a purging. This makes him feared with the dwarves.
Loyalties: To himself. Had plans to overthrow the divine order for a long time, as he is very powerful.
Feared by: Lizards and Dwarves alike.
Childhood: At a young age, he grew up in an intolerant household. His parents were both very upper-class, and did not like lizards. This is where his grudge for them developed. When he was 21, he was bitten by a small salamander. From that day on, he swore a vendetta against Lizards and other such creatures.

Sounds fun! I'll give it a shot

Traits: Annoyingly proper, Knowledgable, Cultured

Quirk: Is a total foodie. Just because we are in this haunted cavern does not mean that we have to eat like animals. And besides have you tried sautéing those glowing mushrooms, serving them over a thin pasta and garnishing it with some dried fire moss? Mmmmm, delicious.

Fear: Is ashamed of being a dwarf. Thinks that she is forever going to be looked down upon as uncultured, crude, or earthy. She longs to be like one of the elves, graceful and cultivated. This stems from her upbringing in Elvish lands, where her politically ambitious parents schooled her incessantly on appearing refined lest the Elvish majority look down upon them. Because of her fear of coming across as uncultured she drastically overcompensates by putting on airs, always being formal and never hinting that her tastes are anything less than high-brow. Unfortunately this makes her appear arrogant and cold to many people. She is unaware that this is how she comes off and wonders why it is hard for her to make new friends.

Race: Dwarf

Background: Female, 25 (or the Dwarven equivalent of 25), Calls herself an "adventuring consultant" as opposed to an adventurer, though the exact difference between the two is something few but her can grasp. As she will be quick to tell you though this is merely a temporary occupation until she can save up enough money to open her restaurant. If prompted she can talk at great length about the plans she has laid out for the place, from the menus to the decor.
Due to her upbringing she will be quick to come to the defense of those others pick on or look down on. She will also adamantly defend Dwarves and their culture, despite claiming to not see the value of it. She also closely keeps track of who she owes favors to and who owes favors to her.
The 'angry bird' in the CD Project logo could become an awesome in-game pet.
Thanks for sharing your loot with us GOG! Great idea to share a reward for your generous $10k donation to one of the best little studios ever.

I'll get my brain on it.
I really like the idea of letting Ciri appear here as she escapes the wild hunt in this world as well, but i guess it might be a problem to incorporate so it's just a thought for CD projeckt red.

i have 2 ideas both based on personal experience from planescape torment and i really like the idea of a game making you think or learn something about our current world or problems (usually morality or philosophy)
so the 2 ideas are :

1) a person (man or woman) who considers himself a fallen god trying to be restored to his glory by finding new believers. He doesn't have any godly powers (he claims because he lacks believers) or any other evidence to support his claim but he is sure of it like the sun shines in the morning and your job is to build him a following. The question asked here is what constitutes a truth? or as game of thrones put it "where does power lie?" meaning does your belief in him and his powers make him a god, or does he need some power for himself?

2) a nihilistic undead who's job is to wake the world to it's falacy. He ressurects other dead creatures and says this is becuase he was able to convince to deny it's own death but not always, and he claims he himself was awakened in this same way when he understood that his death does not exist. Sometimes he fails to ressurrect them and says they were "too thick headed and weren't convinced".
He is most afraid of his own death and the objective reality because then he will need to accept his undoing.

I am not sure how to follow from here and this is where those ideas stand for now, and i hope others can contribute to them more.
I've just become a backer.

I don't know how I completely missed the campaign. Thanks GOG for letting me know about it. Loved the first one, and hope the second will be equally great.
sounds like fun:

Quirk: Germaphobe. afraid of heights, animals, and paper cuts.
Traits: Vanity, pride, racists towards undead.
Race: Undead
One Fear: Death. His biggest fear in life... was death. And now he faces it daily. Mirror's are highly offensive. Anyone addressing him with slanderous words of un-life (ghost, spirit, apparition, living impaired, etc) quickly make the enemy list (if he sticks around long enough to know who said it).
Background: Male. Has lost track of actual age. Was a tax collector but feared he might meet an angry client in a dark alley so he become a librarian. He then grew fearful of angry library customers or getting trapped under books, so he decided to reprint and sell books from the safety and comfort of his home. No germy people, no dusty shelves, no altercations with unruly clients. Choked on an apple seed and died at 30.
The #GOGHero could be a Half-Undead semigod...

What we know of him at the beggining is that he has four secrets. All of them connected to names: his celestial name, the human-known name, the name of the woman that helped him a long ago [will come back to this later in text] and the name of a man who is going to kill him in order to gain something precious [not the ring ;)] That is knowledge how to carry on the journey or a might/force of some kind that will help us in our "trip".

A touch of authenticy:

Traits:

Humility - he hasn't known what vanity is. He hasn't gotten a chance. He originated from the Meretricious Goddess's blood. When she was sleeping, her sister - the Mesmeric Goddes - tried to gain a bit of her blood to find out if there is the Aether. She wanted some for her minions. While gathering the blood into the ampoule, seven drops fall down off the planar where they lived. They fall into the Absence of Nothing, a dark silent sphere, going down and down... And after the thousands of years he realised how small and unsignificant he had become...

Tenacity - he's been falling down. With years passing by, he gained consciousness. Became a self-aware thing, forming into the only shape he know - his "mother" - the Meretricious Goddes. Or her worse, less complex reflection, rather. He tried as much as he can to reach the best form he could. But then it started - the Celestial Rain. He began to feel as if some tiny spires heve been going through his "body", leaving no noticeable sign on his form, still giving a new sensation, an extraordinary pain within his...non-celestial afirmation and non-body presence. He understood he had "inside" - a soul. He promised to himself that he wouldn't leave his soul in that state and started to concentrate on forming it instead of his body. The pain lasted forever but his determination of creating something what is his own only was giving him strength to manage it succesfully...

Vindictiveness - with his soul being shaped, he saw a light. One, another and another. Far away. Then closer and closer. Half-bodied and half-souled he reach our universe. Passed many stars and nebulas so as to reach our planet as a shooting star. He hit the ground. Darkness came and closed his eye... When he opened it he saw a woman. The woman was blind. She came up to him, hearing a death-rattle coming from his half-shaped lungs. She spoke to him. Came up to what lied in front of her and touched his mouth and cheek. And spoke to him again. Was talking all night long. He just listened, concentrating on her words. The words like a stars he passed by. Giving life and...hope?...was that feeling a hope? - he thought. Day after day and night after night she was speaking to him. And with her words he was able to change himself, almost form up. Almost... Untill the men in redden armours came for her. He felt anxiety, despair, than anger growing into fury. But he was weak, couldn't get up or even move his limbs. She was aware of all the situation. She said one last words to him and went away with those men. He knew. Knew that within three days she would die. When her heart broke at a stake, burning and pumping last drops of blood, his heart also got broken, yet he did not die. Became Half-Undead - a thing without his celestial might, a thing of no past and no future... He promised to himself that he would kill those who were responsible for her death.

Quirk He detests a laboratory sets. When hearing the word "ampule", he come into rage. Great rage. That great he can partially use his mind to kill sb by implosion of the nerve system inside a hostile. Usually he gets unconscious and worn-off after that. Sometimes a part of his body fall apart or even his bones crushes, leaving him as a deformed humanoid. Regeneration lasts few days. He is not able to control this power.

One Fear/Loss/Block/Wound He is afraid of not getting his body and soul fully formed. Sometimes comes into panic about it. He is no more god-offspring and he lost his both "mothers" - the Meretricious Goddess and the Woman of Word. That is why he wants to recall their Living Memory - the manifestations of the woman, lasting forever next to his soul. But he needs his soul to be formed completely in order to call in the manifestation. After that he finally wants to leave his body by getting killed by protagonist [he cannot be killed in any other way] so as to carry the eternal life with the manifestations, somewhere in the Absence of Everything.

Race Half-Undead

Background Sex-shifter but mostly "she" [been using "he" for most of text - I really like Hitchcock ;) she/is a child/blood of a goddes, right?] Her body is constantly pulsing - the atoms moves within her. Shifting into another sex lasts a day. She is the age of about a seven thousand years. An anchorite, barely meeting the people becouse of his weakness. He lives with two hummingbirds.

That's it. It's only an outline - there are some gaps in it. What's worse, I have no knowledge of Divinity lore so feel free Dear GOGers to judge me :) And if you find this text too long to be read - I'm sorry! Supposed that RPG fans really like reading.
