Recently, a large number of my GOG purchases that use DOSBox have started crashing just after DOSBox starts up... but not all my DOSBox games.

Some other posts on the forum with this problem have suggested changing the game's graphical settings... but that isn't working for me! Any other ideas?

Which games aren't crashing? Could I hazard a guess that older games fare better?

It's possible that the dynamic recompilation is causing problems.
Afraid not, in fact one of the games that's having a problem is one fo the oldest games on the site, Zork I. Other examples include... geeze, hard to say, I just ran a bunch of them at random and most of them failed. The rest of the Zork Anthology (including Return to Zork and for that matter Zork Nemesis, but not Grand Inquisitor)... Sorry, this would be easier if I were on my main machine but the internet's busted at home. I'll make a list and get back to you in an hour or so.
Sounds more like a security issue, try running as admin, turn off AV and firewall, turn off Galaxy, maybe it helps.
What OS are you using?

Can you install and run Dosbox by itself fine? If so could you try running those games that crash manually from a clean install and see if that works?

The only times DOSBox has crashed on me was when I messed with the graphics output settings (in DOSBox) in Linux (and the open source drivers did not like that).

Try switching from overlay to opengl in dosbox.conf or the other way around if you're currently using opengl. Surface is the most compatible but is usually slow as hell.

[sdl]
output = surface | overlay | opengl | openglnb | ddraw
What to use for output. Surface does not support scaling or aspect correction. More information here: [2]
Default is surface.

Hope that helps.

Hi everyone, thanks for the suggestions so far. Miraculously, my internet repairs were finished while I was out! Unfortunately I'll be off my main machine soon for other reasons, but I'll test what I can while I'm here and send what results I can.

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit.

Running as administrator: no dice.

Disabling AV (and running as admin): no.

Running with or without Galaxy does not seem to impact the results.

I did try graphical options previously and had no success.

However it seems that reinstalling the game DOES work (now that I have the internet and can do so). This might be time consuming over so many games, however. I'll try ZFR's solution to fiddle with a clean install of DOSBox, just in case that speeds things up.

EDIT: I'm beginning to suspect the problems might belong to a set of games I moved from one hard drive to another a few weeks back. Most games took the move without any trouble, and I thought I had tested them all, but clearly not. Is there a string (or strings) somewhere pointing to the old file location that might be causing the problems? If I could edit it, that would save me the trouble of reinstalling each game.

EDIT2: It's not the Shortcut, just to be clear. Those are fine.

Thanks for the help!
