Ah! I think I spotted your problem!

You are trying to use german internet all the way from Ireland. You really shouldn't do that, Germans don't approve you using their internet. Use your local internet like normal people do.

I am currently getting around 22 MBytes/sec downloading one file from GOG with a browser. Fast enough for me, even if it doesn't use all of my 75 MBytes/sec internet speed. With Galaxy I've gotten over 70 MBytes/sec downloading offline installlers.

I'm guessing you mentioned German for some obscure reason that eludes me.

So going off your thread title, yes GOG do give such poor download speeds for a single thread to many of us, but not the majority.

I used to be able to download at around 5 MB a second (i.e. somewhere around 50 Megabits a second). Then in mid 2023 GOG had some crash issue, and download speeds for many of us since then have been lousy.

We suspect GOG changed something and started using a different middleman (CDN Fastly) or just changed the deal they had with them, probably related to cost cutting or trying to force everyone into using Galaxy or both.

I can still download at 5 MB plus, but I need to use a multi-thread downloader program ... else the maximum I get for a single thread is 1.6 MB a second at best.

Your thread (topic) is just another one of many that have been appearing at GOG due to lousy download speed.
