As I've said before, I'm a huge fan of mafia / gangster movies, books, and games, and recently I've started to branch out into turn-based strategy games, so...

Empire of Sin

... came up.

1920's Prohibition era gangster sim from Romero Games.

gameplay trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhYctIBKFbM

Here's hoping it could show up on GOG!?

It looks pretty cool. However it is by paradox, therefore you will get a skin and bones release next year, then for at least one further year drubs and drabs of the game released as DLC until even the most ardent fan gets fed up.

It's not developed by Paradox, however. If the game will have DLC, it'll have 3-4, tops.

Really? And you are the dev? I am suprised paradox managed to allow a whole scene to go out in one batch, it is their modus operandi.

The game is being developed by John and Brenda Romero.

Not saying that means it'll be good, but I'm willing to take a bet based on Romero's pedigree.

Don't know about dlc, but if anyone wants more info on John and / or Romero Games:

From the wiki page:

Empire of Sin is being developed by the wife-and-husband team Brenda and John Romero of Romero Games, with Brenda as the lead designer. According to John, Brenda's past game development history which included the Wizardry video game series and board games based on historical scenarios, had given her great insights into role-playing games (RPG) and creating gameplay systems that focused on character interactions. The Prohibition era ideas behind Empire of Sin had been something she wanted to do for 20 years.[4] This led to the pair seeking Paradox Interactive as their publishing partner given that Paradox is well-known for historical simulation games.[4]

For those not familiar with Romero's name:

Alfonso John Romero (born October 28, 1967)[1] is an American director, designer, programmer, and developer in the video game industry. He is best known as a co-founder of id Software and designer for many of their games, including Wolfenstein 3D, Dangerous Dave, Hexen, Doom, Doom II and Quake. His game designs and development tools, along with new programming techniques created and implemented by id Software's lead programmer John D. Carmack, led to a mass popularization of the first-person shooter, or FPS, in the 1990s. He is credited with coining the FPS multiplayer term "deathmatch".[2]

Like Desperados III, the more I watch on Empire of Sin, the more interested I get.

The only thing I wish could be changed about this game is the lack of voice acting (all dialogue is text). I understand voice acting takes a lot of money and time to create but the gameplay videos "die" without it (they start feeling mechanical instead of alive). Hopefully the music is so good it minimizes that "lifelessness."
