TLDR: CD Projekt got 172K $ for Witcher 3 expansion from an European "creative" fund.

Well, it somehow pales in comparison of the 60K € Tale Of Tales got from the Flemish fund for their last game :o)

PS: dear GOG, could EU citizens get a discount on W3 as we funded it without our consent? ^o^
Bumping this thread as I stumbled upon the official grants spreadsheet:

https://eacea.ec.europa.eu/sites/eacea-site/files/publication-of-results-dev-vg-2015.pdf
Tax money, well spent. :)
That sounds like a lot, but when I look at the official list it says it's co-funding only 7% of the expansion. o.O Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Can you use an 1% of that to fix the website + forum? :P
Our country alone waste so much money that this is nothing in comparison (more that 5kkk € for an airport that'll probably never be finished for example) in the EU even several times more money is wasted every year, so it might sound like a lot but for the EU it's nothing.
In addition to that it's better spent there than on some other projects.

The tax money could of went to things that don't benefit EU citizens in any way. So I think this is a good thing for you guys. You EU people are lucky. Hare, the government would rather spend tax money on drones instead of a Witcherr 3 expansion. :(

It is true that Germany carries a lot on it's shoulders.

Fairfox: I didn't actually look at the links listed by the OP, but I trust everything everybody says anyway (it's why an African prince is soon to make me a millionaire).

So, in passing I must say: I salute you, EU citizens of the world.

(Note: I don't actually play the Witcher games. Sorry. I do own the first two! They're... erm... over there somewhere <--- I think.)
WAIT. He said he is going to make ME a millionaire. WTF No money through Western Union for him!

Funny thing is that when I posted the OP, it didn't show up for 5-6 hours so that's why it went unnoticed. I even thought one of the blue deleted it :o)

EDIT: or maybe it's a GOG conspiracy bot which automatically bury threads relative to GOG/CDProjekt business ^o^

It might be that after taxes on the prospected sales this is still a profitable funding. Something like govermental kickstarter to support local video games industry. Better than subsidizing agriculture anyways.

On the other hand I don't really like it. CDP is big enough to stand on their own feet. With W3 standard edition sales they should swim in money and be able to fund their future on their own.

Thanks Europe.
Yup, the programme helps thousands of artists to promote European culture and growth. Gaming is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, and many governments are catching on. I think just last year the UK issued new cultural regulations that allow culturally British games to claim tax relief.

Do you think Obama still has his copy of Witcher 2?

If CD Projeckt does not win it, some other game developers are going to get it.

Would you think other game developers are in a better position to win it?
