Fellow goggers, does somone have ideas to locate the status on a business? Flatrock Software, a publisher based on Boulder, Colorado acquired the entire catalog of softdisk games decades ago, and they used to sell some of the games on gog.com. they also were trying to sell the rights to them from their url. But this year, Flatrock softwares online presence vanished from the internet. Their urls offline, their contact email and such are also gone. Some of their games are on gog , like the catacomb and dangerous dave games which were sold to another entity. but the others arent. Got an idea whether someone else got those games and if they'll put them on sale on gogcom? They also had the srcs to all the games, and these part of gaming history seems to be gone.

Your previous thread didn't get derailed. You just broke forum rules and someone called you on it. I dug around and was able to find very little information about flatrock software. You're likely not getting responses cause no one has an answer for you.

That being said, the linkedin profile you posted in the other thread still exists. Sending a message to that guy seems like the only reasonable lead you're going to get.

So far as your question about locating the status of a business, there are records if it's a registered business or corporation that are maintained by states. You can check the status of business filings with the various state agencies that handle that. You need to know what the legal name of the company and the state is was registered in though. I looked up Flatrock in Colorado and nothing jumped out as relevant.

Judging from the business registration and their registered trade names I'd say that the buck stops at that Richard Mandel guy.

He registered some trade names like EuroSoft Group and Software Bundles Inc and then registered some Support company trade names. It looks like he was planning on doing some kind of software distribution company and abandoned that in favor of starting an IT support company. Either way, he appears to be the sole owner of that trading entity, so he is likely the full rights holder. Unless he has sold them or the rights have reverted back to someone else.

yes, got that exact reply when i tried the CO dept of state. that means they owed $ right? Clever observation, wonder the reason he quit his plans. Found an old reply on social media, at one point he tried to have the softdisk titles on devices. the questions whether he sold the rights, do we have a method to find that out? he was trying to sell them.

You might be out of luck on this one. Based on what I could find it looks like Richard Mandel died a while ago, that’s likely why he doesn’t respond on LinkedIn. Based on the obituary I found he had three children. If he did own the rights to that software it likely became part of his estate. His children may not even be aware of their ownership of this IP.

It depends but based on what I was able to find the rights are likely now owned by his wife or children. It didn’t look like he had a business partner. They would be the ones to contact to track down who owns the rights.
