Hello,

I'm new to the whole LAN thing and was wondering if someone could help me out with the basics. Now I understand how to set up a LAN in Windows, but what I don't quite get is how Galaxy fits in. Do I need to actually set the LAN up prior to a LAN session if all players are launching through Galaxy?

Also, if I want to set up a wired LAN game between 2 computers with wireless connections, how do I know the game will attempt to use the wired LAN connection instead of the wireless one? My set up is downstairs and away from my router, so lag has been a serious factor while playing.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys might be be able to provide, obviously my comprehension of networking is tenuous at best, so try to bear with me

Galaxy has nothing to do with LAN. You have it set it up before launching a game, yes.

Well, in case of conflicts, wired is always preferred, but in this case (direct connection to other computer), you'll just assign an unrelated address.
Dont know anything about Galaxy, but PC i know a bit.

Just plug the two computers in and see what happens?

Typically whenever i plug two computers via network cable, there will always be trouble getting it to network, ALWAYS.

I think this is a Windows thing because of security tightassedness.... The default network settings in windows is usually very security oriented, so you need to go in there and open up that tight arse so it works properly. Put network discovery on, turn off password crap, other security crap where you can see it.

I would probably disable my wireless as well.

If you do all that and still have trouble then the next thing i would do is turn off any firewalls, antivirus too (but remember to put them back on once you want to go on the internet).

But nowadays wireless is pretty good, so i never bother with direct cable, and its no trouble.... if i get trouble then i simply bin chuck the wireless router and buy a new one - amazing how often that works! lol
