Hi all,

Is it just me, or do GOG and Microsoft not like each other and therefore cause each other problems?

Everytime my PC installs another Windows 10 update, my Gog application crashes or won't launch anymore. This happened to me at least three times now within the last 2 months.

Now, I tried to play Anno 1701: yesterday fine, then today after the windows upgrade Gog is dead. Had to re-install Gog, as it just did nothing, my game library is gone, Anno 1701 launches only with a super-weird graphics-bug.

Anyone else having issues like this or got a recommendation? Maybe I am missing something here, but I am getting seriously frustrated with this.

Cheers

Yes, my recommendation is as always, install your games using the classic installers, ensuring that you install them to folder outside the windows controlled folders - maybe something like c:/mygames. Been doing this for years (last few on Win10) and not had any issues yet. Sure there will be issues, the graphics bug might be caused by several things, not just the software, or windows update, but the interaction between your graphics driver (yes, windows updates have borked some drivers), or with directx. This is the great new future of always online driven operating systems. And I don't think it is just Galaxy either, other apps have had issues as well.

Yeah, thanks bud. I think I should have not used the installer. The standalone setups always worked fine. Will resort to this approach again, lesson learned!
Just hope I get my game files for Anno back,so frustrating having to start all over again.

Cheers
While I use Galaxy as an organizer, I always download the classic installer and install them. That way you have a backup installer handy, and if you wish you can play your games easlily without Galaxy. And Galaxy scans and detects games so no problem on that front too.

You can always scan for installed games from Galaxy, that is also an option. For game files, do you mean the save games? If so did you have cloud saves on as they might be online. You should also have them on your machine, check the usual suspects: Documents, install location, %appdata% (probably local), and maybe GOG folder as well which I note now seems to appear on all games.
Do note I say its not 100%, windows can still mess things up, and you don't get multiplayer without galaxy, so other things to consider as well depending on your use.

I agree, there have been no problems with him for a long time and this is being checked carefully.
True that, I have actually never used this scanning function.

Awesome, I got my Anno 1204 data back, thanks so much guys.

I was in the middle of kicking one player off the map, so need to finish that :D

It's only Annon 1701 coming up with this weird graphics error, flashes like crazy when I start it up now. Driver update made no difference.

Just find it weird that this issue with Galaxy happened so often, and each time after a Windows 10 upgrade.

Anyways, thanks a lot guys!

Cheers
I think the first we issue we discuss should be the illegal Trade Federation blockade of Naboo!

This is what I do as well. Windows 10 updates haven't borked my games or Galaxy so far.

Never had any issue with Windows 10 updates and Galaxy. If Galaxy is actually crashing then you should have crash dumps in ProgramData. Go to search and type %programdata%\GOG.com\Galaxy\crashdumps

I would then contact support and send them the dumps and explain this issue.
