How can I determine whether a game I want to purchase will support the graphics resolution I want. The technical info and system requirements don't seem to have this information. I want games that support full HD, at a minimum, but I bought Myst Uru and fond it doesn't support higher graphic resolution modes.
Some older games may not support higher resolutions out of the box but can be modified with patches or mods created by the community. Check if such options are available.

PCGamingWiki is generally your best reference.

For Uru, there's a patch that may enabled widescreen.
Snrk. Well, good luck with that endeavor.

You're one of those people who stretches the image on SNES games, aren't you? Without reguard for the multiple resolutions of the SNES or 8:7 aspect (sometimes) ratio?

Thanks for the advice
Totally feel the same way. I bought Master of Orion 3 and Im devastated its at a terrible resolution to such a fine masterpiece of digital design.

such an interesting question, let me play devil's advocate for a moment and ask, why you want to buy games you literally know nothing about?

those are for us!
