Getting back on topic, why hasn't anybody yet mentioned 1954 Alcatraz? Maybe it's not true-to-life in accuracy, but it's set in San Francisco, at least.

That was the whole point of the topic: real models of real cities. Even with that specification, quite a few of the games people have mentioned so far were (AFAIK) more along the lines of "throw a few landmarks in there, call it San Francisco/Berlin/Tokyo/[wherever], and who cares how accurate the rest of the city is". If he were just asking about games set in some version of a real-world city, I could come up with dozens -- if not hundreds -- of examples.

Hey, I'm trying my best. There aren't very many games that do this outside of sports games in real stadiums/racing tracks. I guess Gabriel Knight doesn't count, then, but I did find this:

"Visit these real cities by playing a video game" - yes, thats exactly what attract me! of course there should be possibility of free movement trought envirnonment so i dont count games which include sight to some buildings near stadium but first 3 games from the list are nice tips! i hope that console ones from them will be released as pc port too in some time.

Although 2 or 3 of those on the list aren't actually real cities, it still mentions a few that the other list didn't mention.

Well, like I said, the reason it's so difficult is because not many games are out there that actually DO this. I can only imagine what kind of insane budget you'd have to have in order to actually do all the work for planning/mapping out an entire CITY.

But of course. When I said I decided to become an active member of the community, these suckers had no idea what was coming to them. Glad to see you've enjoyed my presence, and who knows, maybe I'll visit Europe some day if I strike it rich somehow.

SCS games:
* Euro Truck Simulator 2 ... there are plenty of mods for this, with even more locations
* 18 Wheels of Steel Extreme Trucker 2
* 18 Wheels of Steel American Long Haul

Others:
* OMSI 2 ... also has a number of add-on cities and mods

Aerosoft is a major publisher and retailer of simulation games.
Excalibur is another one.
