A close contender for my favorite game of all time is Dragon's Dogma.

Why?

There are many reasons, but the main aspect I love about the game is... the allies (pawns). Having companions where you can tweak their kit, attributes, and even AI -- where they can be semi-autonomous and proactive -- is GREAT. Anyway, recently I've played games where I'm adventuring alone and I really miss those allies (yes, even the never-ending banter!). So, I ask...

What are your favorite games with AI companions?
Great thread, and I don''t want to be negative, but I can only think of games with really bad AI companions. XD

Do pets count? What about the mercs in Diablo 2?
I agree re: Dragon's Dogma. I got super attached to my Pawns even tho they're essentially blank slates. I think it's a good system.
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate 2
Mass Effect series
Shadowrun: Dragonfall
South Park series
Unavowed

Less for the AI than for the stories and personalities of the characters.

Icewind Dale 1&2- They shut up, they are controlled and are created by me so they are the perfect tools that obey without question, no risk for insubordination.

Nothing better than AI that's like family.
INIGO in Skyrim and Jespar Dal'Varek in Enderal.

Both are highly entertaining and likeable companions.

Agreed, but with the infinity engine games, you can write your own AI scripts. I have not seen that in many games.

Leroux: Mass Effect series
This series does have some very excellent companions in it and their interactions with Shepard is great.

Another one has to be HK-47 in the KOTOR series. Mostly because of his interactions with the player and wanting to kill everything in sight and how much sarcasism he can put in his voice.
Not much to add here.
Arma 2 maybe? I mean with the sandbox and mods, you could have a mech. inf. company protecting you and taking your orders.
Best? Easy, well fed pig allies in Don't Starve. The bunnymen are great as well, but they're being vegetarians is a bit of a problem.

Also, your fellow pilots, or wingmen perhaps, in Wing Commander IV and your quirky companions in Armed and Dangerous.

Actually, come to think of it, perhaps my favorite ally in a game is Bastilla Shan from KoToR. Several of KoToR1 and 2's companions are great to have around.

As for worst? Definitely your totally useless 'backup' in Delta Force 1.

One of my favorite games(though people may think i'm being silly/joking) is Daikatana. Superfly Johnson and Mikiko are both fun to listen to and see interacting with each other in most cutscenes. I also like the various hubs/settings and the plot(if overdone in media), and some funny things in various areas.

Yes, they companions sometimes get stuck in stuff or can't into ladders and vents, but that's why I use quicksaves/saves.

Observation: You have a good taste in companions meatbag. As a result I will not have to use you for target practice.

(My HK47 is poor :( )

That was very good. And forgot to put it in my original post of how he calls anything that is not robotic meatbags.
Natalya Simonova in Goldenye 64 is the perfect comanion, impeccable AI right there.
