waltc: Begging your pardon, but you own the legal copyright to every word you post on the Internet--unless you sign those rights away in a EULA, or you yourself sell those rights. Copyright is automatic, actually. (Unlike patents or trademarks.)

amok: well, if this is really the way you want to go, then congratulation. DRM as a term is from now completely useless, as it can apply to absolutely everything

DRM from to day truly means "everything I do not like"

DRM is specific, it as about software and the rights to its use.
Why are you nitpicking about this?...;) I think the meaning of what I've said is clear enough--there is no single form of digital rights management--there are *multiple* forms of it, each different from the other.

If you believe that Garriott has *not* restricted posts in the SotA forums solely in order to materially affect the sale and distribution of *this game,* then say so--and tell Garriott why he's wrong...;) (I already have...;)) It seems like you are willing to accept any reasonable definition of DRM except mine, in this specific case. The point is he's doing it in the hopes that controlling criticism of the game will result in larger sales of the game, clearly. In this manner, he aims to control the licensing and sales (same thing) of the game. So it is as much "DRM" as a Starflight code wheel, or excerpts from an Ultima manual.

I really have to bid you adieu--it's time to eat supper--Good Friday here today...;) Happy Easter to you and yours!

trying to control criticism = censoring, not DRM

Careful not to say anything questionable in the UK, because if you comment about a grooming gang in your city or nearby, you'll get a visit from the local police... That's some serious censorship shit there.

maybe you should come here and see how it is instead of what you get through your media?

also - censoring =/= censorship

Because twitter working to get you arrested isn't censoring at all, and blocking your content as 'sensitive' or kicking you off isn't censorship at all, right?

But don't worry... it is getting worse... Hate speech laws are being pushed (Hate speech being anything they don't agree with, and an excuse to throttle anyone with very loose and non-concise rules so they can bend and selectively enforce them)

this is really not a discussion I am interested in, especially someone who use YouTube and non-local press, thinking they know what they are talking about. Nor is it fitting a game forum. go enjoy yourself on a chan or something.

Everyone should be interested in censorship, or rather avoiding it happening.

Frankly I'm anti-censorship, and these things tick me off. Be it from social media, my own threads of news, or locking off talking with devs with a game because you need to 'buy' the game before they will even listen to you. I hate it all.

But you know, forums are here so we can talk. If you don't want to talk, that's fine, you don't have to.

LootSeeker: That's nothing. You should see this game's store. You can buy towns for thousands of dollars and other ingame items, including gold that can be used to buy things to directly benefit your character's performance. The game should be called Shround of the Vending Machine.
So all this, and the game is tied to Steam? Well, there goes any interest in it I ever had.

Maybe.

Best approach is like The Hard Bastard, who takes each article separately to stand on it's own, so one's personal view of an organization doesn't poison your view of it. CNN money for example supposedly is fairly trustworthy, but the main CNN isn't.

It heavily depends on where they get their money, which they then are told what they can't cover else they lose sponsorship. A lot of them won't touch the effects of drugs when SSRI's have HUGE impacts on the population.

Well, at least you have a somewhat valid reason rather than being a tinfoiler.

waltc: Can't even find an Ultima game on Steam any longer using the store search function--so I guess that GOG has exclusive distribution rights to all of the older Ultimas--so wtf isn't Garriott releasing SotA on GO, too?--Gotta' be for the Steam DRM. On the blinking *forum*, too! Amazing.
Garriott has no rights over the Ultima games at all, that IP is in EA's hand.
The rights Garriott still has, are over some characters. Most notably Lord British and also likely over Avatar in combination with Ultima (hence the Shroud of the Avatar name).

As to why not releasing it here on GoG: I doubt it qualifies for GoG standards as a "good game".....
