Sorry if this has already been answered in the past...most sure it has been, but after making a search I did not find any answer.

I'm looking at GOG connect and I'm asking myself what the benefits are of linking my Steam games to GOG? If I already have those games on STeam, why would I also want them on GOG? What am I missin ghere?

The GOG versions are DRM-free, so if that's important to you and you find it's an advantage you can use or need, then that's the main reason. Some like to view it as an extra backup of their game(s). Other people are trying to unshackle themselves from Steam, so that's why they like it. Still others just like to have the games in their GOG library as well.

The DRM thing was the only thing I could see, but as you mentionned, it's not an issue for everyone. Backup might not be a bad idea either.

Another possible reason to want to get the same games on GOG is in case of "Complete your series" bundles. The currently running Star Wars promo gives you a 75% discount if you complete the bundle (meaning you end up owning every game in that bundle on GOG after your purchase), but the discounts for single titles (or without buying everything) are lower. Owning one game on Steam means you'll have to rebuy it to get the better discount, which may or may not be more expensive.

You also get the extras with the GOG version. Usually its just piddly stuff like wallpapers or whatever, not worth paying for, but nice to have kind of stuff.

This. I have been working toward breaking free of Steam for a year now because of their policies, and thankfully I am almost there. GOG Connect has helped in that regard :)

I don't have many games on Steam as I also prefer GOG. But the ones I have on Steam are not available on GOG Connect...so all this for nothing. LOL

It's a promo thing designed to get traffic. Games are only on there for short periods of time and they rotate through, so your games may (or may not) ever end up on Connect. Here's a list of games that made it to Connect and when they were there:

Also the current hat promo (if it worked correctly, which it doesn't) is supposed to give you the games you don't already have (on GOG). Here's someone complaining about the inability to account for Steam ownership -- Connect helps to mitigate it somewhat.

An additional question though. Anyone knows why GOG conect games are not always available? I checked the list of games and they've been available only for a few months each.

Because those are the terms the rightsholders and GOG agreed to. An obvious part of the motivation is that if games were permanently available, some Steam users wouldn't buy anything on GOG, deciding instead to wait until a game shows up on Connect and get two copies for the price of one. FWIW, GOG/CDP has put no time limits on Witcher / Witcher 2 redemption.

edit: when TW3 was nearing release, some people had the balls to write "Will the Witcher backup offer will cover it, too? Because if yes, I'll buy on Steam!!!1!"
