They are always practically giving this one away. Anyone played it? Seems to have mixed reviews.

Yup ^^^ I got this, but haven't played it out yet.
Yeah, same here. I've bought during previous Daily Deal (the same, as far as I remember), but still didn't played.

By the way - it's a matter of base price and marketing tricks. Other games reach the same price with -80% discount.
I always wonder how many people bought We are the Dwarves with the base price.
The game were almost always discounted, and its Real™ base price should be around $2~$3.

have to admit not working for me :D.
Game having a 95% discount and being constantly on sale prices just makes me question it's quality :D (does not matter if reviews are decent or not ^^) .
Funnily enough i guess i would rather buy/considering buying it it with a 80% discount from a different base price and maybe costing like 2$, 2,5$
No new Daily Deal.

So looks like the Summer Sale will be here soon.

We are the Dwarves is not all that bad but it's not a great game either. First thing you need to know: the game is hard as nails and sadly, unfair in many cases. Controls are a bit clunky and camera downright terrible (you can only rotate it). My advice is to play on easy and use tactical pause far more often then you may think you should. If you form a habit to do so you may finally start to enjoy the game. And how is the gameplay? Have you ever played Myth: The Fallen Lords or its sequels? We are the Dwarves has a similar vibe: real-time tactic game in which even a small mistake will lead to your total destruction :D The obvious difference is that you control only three dwarves here, each with unique abilities (gunner, warrior, assassin). If you master the tactical pause feature you may do some cool strategies to defeat your enemies: hide your warrior behind a rock, lure your enemies with the gunner, intercept charging enemies with the warrior, finish ranged foes with the assassin. Trust me, it will take some time of practice to make it works but then it can very satisfying. But as I said before the game tends to be unfair so usually in each mission you will try to reach the stone of life first (it can heal your dwarves) and then try to reach your goal retreating to the stone every time you encounter some enemies.

I've played the game shortly after replaying the Myth series so I was prepared for a hardcore RTT game so in the end I kinda enjoyed the game. But I can recommend it to you if you like such games and are ok with a high and unfair difficulty.

Thanks for the detailed write up! I decided to take the bait, although given how fast my back log is rising and how low my supply of spare time is, it will probably be a while before I actually play it.

I almost did by accident. This game came out at almost the exact time as another tactical realtime iso-RPG based on dwarves: The Dwarves.

I still don't understand how someone didn't get a C&D or a request for a name change, but glad they were both able to work it out!

We Are The Dwarves released first - my initial thought was "Oh wow, did they have to bork the visuals from those first screenshots! The engine must have failed bigtime somewhere because this looks nothing like the previous shots I had seen." Then I realized what had happened - it was a different game with almost the exact premise and title LOL.
