In November 2024, GOG launched a brand new initiative: the GOG Preservation Program. This unique project represents our long-term commitment to ensuring that classic games remain playable on modern and future systems. Currently, the Program includes over 100 titles, with a goal of expanding to 500 games by the end of 2025, and ultimately, to encompass our entire catalog of classic games — already numbering in the thousands.

the GOG Preservation Program is our commitment to preserving gaming history. Through the Program, players can trust that their games will always be up to date and ready to run on current and future PC setups. Whether it’s manuals, DLCs, or missing features, we’re offering the most complete version possible, backed by GOG’s tech support and offline installers, so you can safeguard these classics for years to come.

Today, we couldn’t be happier to welcome the newest additions to our Program – a great variety of LEGO® franchise titles, including both new releases and games already released on GOG. Let’s see what’s new!

the GOG Preservation Program – and this time, we’re including legendary LEGO® titles on our mission of keeping classic games playable.

They’re also arriving with amazing bundles: LEGO Movie Videogame Bundle (-85%) and LEGO® Movies Game Bundle (-85%).

Meanwhile, a variety of classic LEGO® games already on GOG are officially joining the Preservation Program, ensuring they stay accessible for years to come. Here’s what’s joining:

LEGO® games aren’t just fun – they're timeless. Generations of players have built memories with these creative, action-packed adventures, making them a crucial part of gaming history.

But the journey doesn’t end here! Want to see even more LEGO® classics on GOG? Titles like LEGO Island, LEGO Rock Raiders, or LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga could become reality with your help. Head over to the GOG Dreamlist and vote for your favorites – it’s the best way to show publishers that these games deserve a place in the GOG catalog!

Brick by brick, let’s make these games live forever – now on GOG!
This is a great start, GOG. Also looking forward to Undercover here.

.Keys: Thanks for the effort GOG and GOG's tech team.

May I make a question?

I've just read the changelog from one of the LEGO games and it says, above other things, this:

This means that the games will launch initially with a setting of 1920x1080 resolution, therefore, by launching by default on Full Screen, I suppose, monitors which don't use or don't support 1920x1080 resolution will not be able to output any signal from the game?

"Who don't have a Full HD monitor nowadays bruh? They're cheap, go buy one!" - I hear some random conscience screaming somewhere in the future when reading my post.

Well, random conscience from the future reading my post, some choose to not play games on 16:9, or even on HD, can you believe that?
Some prefer to play old games the way they were designed at the time, even on lower resolutions like 800x600 or 640x480! 4:3! Can you believe that?! :P

Jokes aside, I'd please like for a clarification GOG.

As always, thanks for the effort, and please, with all due respect you guys deserve, (I mean it, seriously, thanks for preserving RE and DC!) I hope you guys are not doing the same as before "One Solution to all" with this and are revising each game before applying the same theoretical fix on them - as this has broken some games before and some apparently are still broken on some platforms that they worked before, after the GOG preservation program started.

Thanks again.

MarkoH01: Usually two things will happen if the game is not supporting your default resolution:

1) The game will reset to default values when it realizes that the chosen resolution is not working.
2) If the game for some reason should not be able to do so it's almost certain that you can delete a config file to reset the resolution.

I do however agree that setting a default of full HD resolution for everyone is not the smartest move made by GOG. There's a reason why most older games default to resolutions that are pretty low and the reason is that they want to make sure the game can be launched by pretty much everybody without any problems. After the launch there's an option menu for a reason as well ;)
Yes... There are people out there that will still wish to play those games in their original resolution, or at least, aspect ratio.
I still am having trouble figuring out this preservation project...

As far as I can see it is the same GOG always stood for just with an extra promise to make sure these games will run in future as well (which they won't be able to guarantee since they don't know the future) and a shiny seal and a changelog. So it's just some PR to attract new people. We should not think too much about it and be glad if it really attracts new people who did not know what GOG is about.

Apparanetly you can. I got curious and tested it with one of those games: "LEGO Batman". As I thought the installer simply added a config file pcconfig.txt in the savefile directory wich is in this case:

\AppData\Local\Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment\LEGO Batman

Deleting this config reverts the changes and the game will start in the default resolution (1024+768) it was meant to do. Pretty sure it is the same with the other games. I own them all so let me know if you are still uncertain and interested in a specific one and I can test it as well.

Thank you very much for the info!
Can you test LEGOs Indiana Jones The Original Adventures, Pirates of the Caribbean The Video Game and Star Wars The Complete Saga?

Also allow me to explain my concern:
Im more concerned on the preservation of these games (and all games really) the way they were intended to be played generally than concerned if I will be able to play them in a specific resolution to be honest.

Many games were not programmed to be played in higher resolutions and higher fps as we know,
Depending on the game (thankfully, and apparently, not these LEGO ones) the engine just breaks with higher resolutions (because of engine model and textures rendering) and higher fps (when game physics are tied to the fps, or even enemy/npcs ais are somehow tied to the fps).

To explain it a bit more, with, again, all due respect to GOG's tech team as I respect their work a lot, Im concerned with the GOG Preservation program because Im afraid they might apply 'one solution to solve them all' without more detailed proper long term testing.
Changing things like resolution might be dangerous for the game engine rendering with some games even though they apparently work fine in the first levels of the game.

Im also concerned the next step on this program would be to alter the games they intend to preserve is to change games max fps as we all know changing fps in games is probably one of the most dangerous things engine-wise. We also know our generation of gamers is addicted to high fps (120+, 144+ fps) when most old games are fixed with 30 fps and 60 fps.
If GOG starts to receive requests from high fps addicted users to hack games into having higher fps when old game engines can't handle them, what will happen?

Maybe the first levels work fine with the applied hacks for resolution and fps, but what about the whole game? I doubt GOG team will have time and resources to test all the games on the preservation program fully, from start to finish, all cutscenes, all models, all vistas, and so on.

I don't know if they will read this message or some users concerns about this, but I really do hope they hear us on this.
Also I know for sure that they also know this, so although Im concerned with this, I also do know they value the preservation of these games the way they were intended to be played when they were launched, as per the description of the Resident Evil games here.
Thank you for doing this.

Tested them and it is the same. You will find the config file pcconfig.txt you need to delete to get back to default resolution in the following folders:

LEGOs Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
\AppData\Local\LucasArts

LEGO Pirates of The Carribean: The Video Game
AppData\Roaming\DisneyInteractiveStudios\LEGOPirates

LEGO Star Wars - The Complete Saga
\AppData\Local\LucasArts\LEGO Star Wars - The Complete Saga
