You scrape off some paint on the paper to reveal a code, typically by using a coin on it.

Just like those lottery tickets, yes.

In the UK its a type of gambling. In the US the same term is used as well I think.

I would guess the op means gift cards though - which Themken is more directly referring to.

So,what would be the point? An extra gimmick or something?

So some shops sell credits on such pieces of paper. If you only have cash and can find a shop that sells those cards AND accepts payment in cash, you can get credits for WoW, GOG, Steam or whatever without having to use a credit card.
If scratchcards is what was meant, I suspect that would not really be in keeping with GOG's pro-consumer direction. It would be a bit like the storefront equivalent of lootboxes.

Gift cards could be a really nice addition, though ...

People that have issues paying gog from their locale can buy a wallet code gift card to use instead: some countries dont have paypal, or theres currency conversion charges, banking fees and so on.

Its not a terrible idea, though in the Uk at least, we dont see so many of the gift cards now, and instead tend to get the code on a reciept print out from a paypoint (like where you might pay your gas bill).

The latter is something gog could reasonably setup in some countries, but I'd imagine that would be a similar list to those that already have ease of payments.

Thanks. We have gift cards everywhere, even a build up on the pokies and off to the credit card machine and cash in for a Woolies card or something similar. In saying that it takes about 2k through the pokies to get a hundred credit.
The basic logistics of such an idea would make it rather unattractive for GOG.
I suppose GOG is by far too small for that. In Germany I can get those prepaid cards only for big shops like Steam, Nintendo and Amazon.
Hmmm, lets see....

I got three Keane's. What do I win?
