Hello all,

I'm looking for suggestions of games to play with my girlfriend.

That is, games that we can play together whether singleplayer or multiplayer. For example we already played a couple of Adventure games where we both yelled suggestions at the screen to progress. We also played Doom Co-op on LAN, with the laptops side by side (already finished Ultimate Doom, Doom II and Brutal Doom campaign).

So, I'm looking for good games that you can enjoy in the company of someone, single- or multiplayer.

One caveat though, our PCs are not exactly top of the line so anything AAA from the last 5 years will likely not run smoothly.

If you like strategy games you can try Heroes of Might and Magic. If you fancy shooters, Star Wars Battlefront 2 it's a good option. All the Lego games are fun with company (but, for me, the Lego Star Wars is the best).

Greetings.
I would recommend PixelJunk Monsters HD. It has one of the best Co-op modes I've seen, you'll have a blast
playing it together. It also has low system requirements.

I always enjoyed Kane & Lynch: Dead Men in coop a lot. It's the regular story mode just in split screen (I think there's not even an option to play the coop mode online), you will need at least one XInput controller, though, or custom drivers that will fool your system into thinking that some other gamepad is an Xbox 360 controller. There's also the sequel although that one's worse. That one's coop on the other hand works only online.

There's also Resident Evil 5 and 6 which are pretty awesome in coop. I had a lot of fun playing RE5 with my girlfriend and a friend of mine is also having a great time with his girl in this game. Sadly RE5 is online only (on PC), RE6 apparently has splitscreen but I never tried it. RE6 may be too much to handle for your PC but RE5 has pretty low system requirements (it IS ten years old, after all).

If you're up for something pretty hard and oldschool there's Alien Breed. The games don't hold up as well as I'd want them to but they're still quite fun in coop.

And can't really go wrong with Worms: Armageddon or almost any other game in the series for that matter.

Oh yeah, and Serious Sam: The First Encounter and Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. Both games' main campaign can be played entirely in coop. In these original versions you can play multiplayer either in LAN or split screen, in the HD remakes splitscreen was sadly removed.

Frankly I could go on like this forever.

Especially Heroes of Might & Magic 2 it's way better than the next chapter in its cuteness and coziness (i can't find the better words).

I highly recommend to try Quake Arcane Dimensions (latest ver. 1.7) in coop. Levels are huge and beautiful. Don't run it in Quakespasm 0.93 rather use Quakespasm 0.92 AD modified (SPIKE for nice looking effects)
here is a link (you'll need quake original PAKs to play of course):

And if you liked Doom why not try Heretic as well? It can't be bought here, but it's available on Steam. There are also ton of good Doom mods still available for you to enjoy.
Sourceport engine is recommended.

I loved playing Sanitarium and Prisoner of Ice. They are a bit dark but they are not very hard and plot twists are good.
Beneath a Steel Sky (free) is also a very good example of proper adventure for 2 people. Sadly Broken Sword series are not nearly as good, but still decent.
Goblins 2 and Goblin's Quest 3 (Goblins 3) might be a good choice if you prefer hilarious puzzle solving in "Dali" like decorations.

Are you looking exclusively for GOG/DRM-free games or do you use Steam, too? In the latter case, I'd suggest Castle Crashers, Portal 2, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and Borderlands 2.

Maybe Saints Row The Third (also on GOG)? I've never played that in co-op mode though; some friends of mine found it too buggy for their taste.

On GOG, Trine 2.

Worms Armageddon or Worms World Party. There's absolutely nothing better to play with friends, I say this with no hyperbole.

You dirty dirty poster. I seriously doubt any one else here was thinking of such a suggestion.....

*scoff*

Plus we all know Wounded Soldier being taken care of by French Nurse is a lot more fun.....
- Spelunky can be played co-op (local shared-screen only), as well as offering a deathmatch mode.
- Oh...Sir!! The Insult Simulator is sort of a turn-based fighting game where you build absurd insults to attack your opponent instead of throwing punches and kicks.
- Terraria is a cool sandbox experience that will still keep you on your toes with its many different events and special mini-biomes, as well as thousands of items to find or craft.
If your are looking for fun, with Broforce you can have a really good time.
If you are not looking for DRM free games, I can recommend the Splinter Cell Blacklist Coop. I really enjoyed it with my brother.
You can try Think of the Children if you like games that are silly but also intense and requiring a lot of reflexes. I only played it solo but it easy to see there should be a lot of fun playing it together.
I genuinely enjoyed playing Portal 2 in co-op, if you're not limited to gog-games!
it takes some working together and it's great fun to figure out all the bizarre riddles with your significant other...

Genuine question: how did progress went this way?

All I achieve by yelling at my screen, is my neighbor banging on the wall, and either
- asking me, whether I know, what time it is; or
- telling me, to shut the fuck up.
