No it's not really. Handing friends via the profile system is kind of standard practice. What is convoluted is having 2 friends sections, each with their own code base and issues. Think of this from a development standpoint, yea it may be a bit more initial work then adding a button, but in the long term your not duplicating features on different pages and you are using a single code base for both the site and Galaxy to handle anything & everything dealing with friends.

They way GOG is handling this is convoluted...

I always thought that profiles are for displaying stuff and not for managing it. I agree with that. So let's get rid of those profiles. ;)

Let's compare to the constant elephant in the room. Steam.

On Steam your profile is located at: steamcommunity.com/id/NAMEorID/
Your friends are located at: steamcommunity.com/id/NAMEorID/friends/

You can both view & manage your friends from this single section.

When your click on a friends profile you are taken to their profile page. When you click on their friends section, you are taken to the same page, except based on their profile id (and not your own). Of course some options are hidden form you , etc. because your have no need to manage your friends friends.

Steam friends page is a heck of a lot more robust and useful the GOG's currently.

And GOG already have at least one system very similar to this, GOGMixes (hidden and forgotten as they are). When you visit one of your own mixes, you can edit it, but when someone else visits the same URI, they can only view it.
