My SSD doesn't allow me to install games without administrator access. I have tried many different things to fix this, but none of them have worked. If I run Steam as an administrator, it lets me install games on my SSD. However, when I run GOG Galaxy as an administrator and try to install a game on my SSD the download doesn't start and doesn't tell me why. Some more information on my SSD - I have full permissions to it and the only time an issues arises is when installing games on it.

My F drive is my HDD with GOG Galaxy installed on it, and where all my games are installed. My C drive is my SSD where I want to install some games. My C Drive is setup in the Settings > Downloads > Other downloads folder. I tried reinstalling GOG Galaxy and excluding GOG through my Firewall and antivirus but the issue still persisted. My question is that is there some fix or work around for this issue that can be done?

Are you logged in as a local admin account?

Yes I am, I've spent hours trying to fix this. I tried different methods but none of them have worked. I have the SSD shared with me, I have all permissions, I tried changing the owner (but it kept saying files were in used so I cancelled, I tried to create a new user and transfer ownership to them and it didn't work), I also tried reducing User Account Settings to nothing and that didn't work either. Those are the things that I tried today, I messed with it a while ago and probably tried other things too.

Saying you have the SSD shared is a weird way of putting it. Are you trying to install to a shared folder on the C: drive via UNC path? I doubt Galaxy would support this, though I have not tried.

Sharing the C:Drive was one of the solutions I found online. I tried installing games from GOG before and after doing that. I'm the only actual user on my computer so I don't think it being shared would cause an issue.
Can you install them without galaxy?

The fact that the drive is shared shouldn’t be an issue, it also shouldn’t be required. The path you are using would be important though.

Are you using a path like “c:\games” for example or “\\(computer name)\(share name)”?

Also the other question as to whether or not you can install to this drive in general using a standard installer would be useful to know.
My file path is C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games. The GOG Downloader didn't work for me, but I will try a browser download and see if that works. I hope it's just GOG blocking it, but I don't know why it doesn't let me download and install games when I have administrator privileges. If it works it's at least a workaround, but it's annoying to have to manually download the game (and update it when updates come).

Well it's a strange problem. As a starting point I'd say to disable any security functions that might cause problems, it sounds like you already tried disabling your antivirus and UAC, but you could try disabling DEP.

The other thing would be to check out your application and system logs in the event viewer to see if there are any errors being generated during the installation process.

I'd also look at downloading the offline installer through Galaxy to the SSD to rule out some kind of issue with that part of the install process in Galaxy. If it does download than you know it's not some kind of Galaxy connection issue. I doubt that is the case though if Galaxy is able to download and install games to your other drive.

Just don't install games in Program Files. Try C:\Games or something like that and let us know if your issue persists.

I love it and hate it when a simple solution solves my problem. Thanks for the help everyone!
