I watched The Dark Tower, The Predator and Star Wars: The Last Jedi in quick succession. And it was more than I could stomach. Now I´m slowly dying from inside. Please tell me, that there are some good scifi or horror movies coming. Recommend me some new movies to neutralize the vile poison in my veins.
Secondary question: Has Hollywood forgotten how to make good movies?
Well, you should READ the Dark Tower novels, not watch them! What do you expect when watching books? That they start dancing like MJ after a while? Nope, you actually have to open them and READ them! :-)
Man oh man, The Dark Tower was some high budget trash.

I have no "new" films to recommend. Being perpetually stuck in-between time itself, I often don't watch much current films until at least 2-5 years after everyone's blown a load about how "epic" and "game changing" they were.
Last new(ish) movie I saw was Mission Impossible: Fallout.

Not too bad. Easy to watch little popcorn movie. Take a look at it.

Man, I read all of them at least three times :)

The new one "Wind through the Keyhole" only once, but the others multiple times in the last years.

The only series I have read more often is Dune. Maybe five or six times.
Have you seen Hellraiser? Iconic horror movies.

Yes, all of them multiple times :) Well, except the newest reboot (it is not available in Germany yet) and one of the older, that plays in cyberspace or something.

Well, they would be quick to point out their box-office receipts. Basically, as I tell my octogenarian mother, movies these days are made for a different (younger) demographic. People who haven't seen any movie (let alone a film) made in a year beginning with a one.

That said, there are classics to watch; they have become classics because they have survived over years to be worth re-watching, for multiple reasons. There was a golden age of science fiction in the fifties, then again some in each of the subsequent decades, but —— inevitably —— Hollywood created a surfeit that ended with cash-in crap.

Classic films from iconic auteurs, like A Clockwork Orange from Stanley Kubrick, Alien and Blade Runner from Ridley Scott, even The Day the Earth Stood Still (though I prefer the eighties remake, except for Jaden Smith): and Forbidden Planet are good, from the 50s, even though science has progressed far in the years since.

edit: Jaden Smith

The Predator was an insult to the franchise. I'm not exaggerating when I say I consider AvP Requiem to be a far superior movie.

Autism is the next step in human evolution.

Hated it. HATED IT!!!
edit: Found it.

Haven't seen it yet, but The Endless seemed interesting.

Jurassic Park and Rambo would like to have a word with you.
