BrandeX: It seems like most cases of problems peopel have with old games on Win 10, is that they don't know to go into the control panel and enable directdraw.
Well, in the end of the day it all comes back to being users' fault.

Either they can't find the right settings on their computer, or even if they can, they made the wrong choice in choosing Windows 10.

My desktop computer is still running Vista, and even has 3,5" and 5,25" disk drives. If playing older games is the goal, there's no need to update anything.

Then again, I have Win 10 on two laptops, and I haven't really experienced any problems, not counting those damn forced updates that the OS does.

Either make all of your connections metered or...

Launch services.msc as admin and turn off Windows Update and Windows Modules Installer.

edit: Actually it's change the Startup type to Disabled on those two. Went and checked it. Turning them off will just restart them on the next boot.

I haven't done much gaming the last few years but am trying to get back into it. Threads like this kind of scare me, but then I read the same stuff about Vista, 7 and previous Windows iterations and never had much of a problem with old games. There are some rare cases, like early 3D Lucasarts stuff (Shadow of the Empire for example), that didn't run. For the most part though there's always a solution.

o_O

Were there new PCs equipped with 5¼-inch floppy drives by the time Windows Vista was out? Or did you keep it from an older PC?
As someone who uses Windows 10, I've never had such issues. Verify your games after installing. That should help.

I put together that thing myself, so yes it's from an older PC.

Nice. And how old are your 5¼-inch floppies?

Can't remember whether I kept them or not (and where did I keep them, if so), but there's probably a couple of boxes full of them back at my parents' house. I should look for them someday... but then I would have to find a suitable floppy drive to check if the still work. :P

They are games released some time in the 80s, so about ~30 years.
Oh my god! Velvet lives!

Hey SV, nice to see you pop in here again. Missed your posts bro. You back again for a while? IIRC, you had some hand issues that you mentioned were causing some gaming problems back when. Things any better on that front?
