You can't kill the Metal, the Metal will drive on!

Double Kick Heroes is now available In Development, DRM-free on GOG.com. The game is 10% off until April 25, 8am UTC.
The undead tried to kill the Metal. But they FAILED! As they were mowed down to fleshy bits. Thuggish street gangs tried to kill the Metal. But they FAILED! As they were blown up by your merciless riffs.
Thus your power band rocks on, cruising the post-apocalyptic land on their upgradeable Gundillac. Meet eccentric characters and hit the right beats to destroy the raving deadbeats - it's the apocalypse, but don't let such trivialities get you off your rhythm! Should you feel your resolve weakening, just import your favorite music and melt some rotten faces off on your own terms.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

nightcraw1er.488: Well, forgot the average graphics, and take away the music, and what seems to be left here is a game where you only move a car up the screen and down the screen. That is it? Seems very dull and empty, not even movement left and right. Now add back in some average graphics, and then add a "metal" sound track, doesn't equate to anything near either a) a fun game, or b) a good deal. The sound track in the clip is ok, although the term metal is very broad, and I have no real idea why that is used here other than as a gimmick to get away from the "its another plain zombie shooter" comments.

Add to that its pre-order and all the other standard crap that GOG pull here nowadays (although no online only components as far as I can tell as yet) its another week of nothing.

amok: no, it is a rhythm action game, i.e. hit correct buttons in time with the music. it is not my preferred genre (I have 0 rhythmical sense) but there are some good games out there like this with different settings and which has some strong followings.

I am not going to judge this game just because it is a genre I do not like, I'l let people who are into it decide if it is good entry into it or not.
Oh, I see its like the karaoke sub game in Sleeping Dogs. Didn't even see the bit at the bottom of the screen. So you don't actually even move up or down, just hit the button at the time given by the line. Meh, definately not for me.

If you want to compare it to other games, it is like Rock Band, Rappappa the rapper, Rocksmith, Beat mania, Samba de Amigo, Space Channel 5, Bust a Groove, Amplitude, Friedric: Resurrection of Music, Un Jammer Lammy and so on. It is a large genre, and many people do like them.

tinyE: Yeah, Jeff of course died a couple years back but I hear about them on tour every once in a while.
Only two original members.

Actually, they're preparing for their farewell tour (May-Aug '18) so this will be your last to see them live (unless they do some reunion thing, which i doubt). As for the other two members, one is Paul Bostaph (Exodus, Testament and ex-Slayer, since he was the guy who replaced Lombardo back then when the latter left the band, then he also left Slayer and was replaced by Lombardo who left the band again in '09 or '10 and, guess what, hey, Bostaph replaced him once again!) and the other is Gary Holt (Exodus). They're not some random folks for sure, but i'm not sure how they perform together to be honest.

Really has been a while since I last saw them, wasn't this decade, so I presume 2007 at Graspop in Belgium. I doubt I will get to see them this year with the missus working away. Ah well, good luck to them, I remember taking Wasp F* like a beast and Angel of Death in for a music lesson way back, everyone was suitably impressed.

I can't even watch an advert for Stricly Come Dancing without getting enraged, so these things have passed me by.

........ how are you supposed to see whats happening above if your eyes are glued to the action bar on the bottom? i dont get it, seems like one of those free games on kongregate. gog is really adding alot of ...niche games lately
I'm wasn't aware there was much of an audience for this genre here, but hey, if there is, fine by me, even if I'm uninterested.

you are soooooooo weird!
Did Hoagie (from DOTT) appeared on one of those tubes? Really neat.
Yes! More rhythm games! And this one looks promising.
So what is it exactly? A narrative shooter or rythmn-based?
This could be really good! But I'm somewhat skeptical about the controls. The special guitar/instrument controllers are a major part of the appeal of Guitar Hero style games. Not sure if this will be much fun with a standard controller or keyboard.

We're basically in the middle of heavy metal's great extinction event. Black Sabbath just retired and Ozzy is prepping his solo career farewell tour. Dio and Lemmy died, causing Motorhead to shut down and Dio was reborn as a hologram. Glenn Tipton has Parkinson's and although Judas Priest is saying they'll continue on, you've got to figure the number of tours and albums they've got left in them is in the low single digits. Steve Harris is always threatening to retire Iron Maiden (I think they're now saying they'll wrap it up when Nicko is ready for retirement, and I think he's around 70). Rush retired a few years back. The next generation bands will continue on for a bit but the classics are steadily fading away. Which is fine - I doubt too many rock stars started off thinking they'd still be playing in their 70s, so they've kept this going a lot longer than anyone anticipated :)

It's definitely a rhythm game, but there's a little more to it than that. You're given control of the car's up/down movement during boss fights to dodge charging attacks, and not controlling it during normal stages emphasizes the car's upper and lower guns. Basically, normal notes have two possible inputs that correspond to the two guns, and this lets you focus on attacking specific groups of approaching enemies. There's also a second kind of note that has its own separate input and lets you launch grenades.

Peripheral vision and really awkward quick glances, mostly.
Waiting for gameplay videos, I want to listen to a few tracks before deciding wether to buy the game or not.
Edit: Off to a great start :D
