So there is a very cool and nice feature coming to GOG - we will be introducing user profiles very, very soon. But I won’t be revealing any details of the feature, as we want you guys to experience it first-hand rather than reading some PR bla-bla. Before it all goes live and will be available for you, we need to deal with all the formalities - launching profiles means adding new privacy settings on our end. We want to give you a heads-up, and that’s why today we’ve introduced the three new privacy settings on your GOG account, all connected to the profiles.

As with all privacy settings, you will find the three new options on your account, under „Orders & Settings” in the Privacy tab. These settings allow you to set visibility for your profile summary (including your recent activity and recently active friends), your games on the profile and your friends on the profile - you can set them to „everyone”, „friends only”, or „only me”. The default settings are - „everyone” for your profile, and „friends only” for both your games and your friends. If you want, you can change those settings already, before we launch with profiles, and of course you can change those settings anytime you want.

Hope you’ll enjoy this new feature when it comes to GOG, and expect an official announcement very soon!

kohlrak: Depending on what details are automatic or not, i want to point out ahead of time this could turn very badly very quickly given this is only posted on the forums, and not coming with a news article on the site itself. Might be nothing, though, if all the public information is self-reported. Some people might be a bit sensitive about purchase history being visible, too, so a more apparent warning might stave off some of the inevitable backlash.
We will be talking about it in the official announcement of the feature on the main page, when it goes live. This is just a heads up for you, the most dedicated ones, who hang out here in the forums. You guys and gals are also the most sensitive for such changes, hence the forum post to let you know earlier.

bhrigu: Hmm. Intriguing.
Is it praise? or .....
:p

Anyway, just one thing. Will it be possible to do so that we can choose which games from our collection to show in the profile, rather than the entire library?
Unfortunately, it's either all or none.
Thank you for all the feedback you’re posting here. In terms of how public your profile is, if it’s set up to „everyone” - the profile will be only visible to users who are logged in to GOG. We treat all of you guys like friends rather than „some users”, and we believe that the whole GOG community forms something more than just a group of different users on some digital distribution platform. And because of this approach, that we're all big GOG family :), we want to go ahead and allow others who are part of this community to be able to visit your profile, and see what you’re into. But still the information they’ll see is limited unless you decide otherwise.

Also, there was some confusion on showing your friends’ activity on your profile. It’s not the case. If someone will visit your profile (if your privacy settings allow for it, of course), they will see your activity, not your friends'. They will only have a peek at 5 recently active friends of yours, and their general information (no. of games, no. of achievements and hours played).

And one more thing. Thanks for the feedback regarding the "Visibility" option. We've changed the description there, so it should be clear what's what.

Hikage1983: To be fair, only the profile visibilty was set to public in my case. Everything else was friends only.

EDIT: i DO support that sentiment tho.

Djaron: all the old previous settings i had set to "no one/ me only" had been reverted to "everyone", afaic.... so understand my surprise and my upsetting in this one
None of the previous privacy settings were changed by us.
The announcement is now live: https://www.gog.com/news/introducing_gog_profiles

We wanted to soft launch it and make all the necessary fixes, that's why the delay. Hope you like the feature.

xyem: Did you ask someone to "fix" my wallet, because now it is even more broken..
What happened to your GOG Wallet?

xyem: It says I have used one amount on the wallet page but there a different amount on the order itself, which is leaving me with wallet funds I don't think I should have.
Could you please submit a ticket to our support, ideally with screenshots attached. From the backend all looks to be ok, but if you say there are any errors, it would be good to check it. Thanks.

We've added an option to disable profile entirely, more information here.
