It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

HunchBluntley: One reason they split them up is so that, if one file gets corrupted during downloading, you won't have to download the entire game again (some games these days have downloads of more than 30 gigs), only the affected "chunk".
Some old filesystem only support filesize up to 4294967294 (2^32-2) bytes.
GOG used to make mistakes and provided 2-bytes-larger (2^32) files.
But recently, GOG only provide Windows installers that have maximum filesize 4294967294 bytes.

Linux almost never have this limitation, so GOG's Linux installer often have filesize up to 10 GiB in a single file.

IronArcturus: GOG needs to understand that many do not want to use Galaxy to run their games at all. A mandatory, always-online client is considered DRM and we don't want to see this on GOG.
Well good thing that Galaxy is neither mandatory nor always-online.

see it now, thanks! I guess the terminology confused me

HunchBluntley: This just puts it to a more direct purpose (and, unfortunately, makes it much larger).
They made the button really large and it can make users think that Galaxy is the only way. This is why so many are worried that Galaxy will be made mandatory in the near future.

Or look at it another way, they made it really big so users know exactly what they are downloading and won't get confused downloading the wrong installer like last time. :P

Before the classic installers were completely hidden, now they are visible right there beneath the big Galaxy button and it's no longer that easy to miss them. Definitely an improvement in my eyes.
That's the GOG I know and like a lot: bringing new stuff out of the blue. GOOD new stuff.

Thanks!

I've read this since Galaxy became a thing (when was it? 3 years ago? 4?) and it still isn't mandatory. I mean, when is this "near future"?

Thumbs up from me.
Great. Now all I need is Galaxy to have an option to create REAL, NORMAL SHORTCUTS for things. I don't mind using Galaxy for some convenience and features, but I want my desktop shortcuts to open the game directly itself, without spawning Galaxy first for most of my products. Games with cloud saves can be the exception (though, I'd still prefer the option/control). AND it constantly re-creates these shortcuts if I manually make my own any time the game updates.

One question, if I download the offline installer, will the installed game still be able to be imported into Galaxy and support the Galaxy features after the import?

I like to keep the offline installers but also want to keep my installed games up to date with Galaxy.

Second change means, we’re removing entirely the previous GOG Galaxy game installers. So if you want to take full advantage of all GOG Galaxy features in your games, just use the new web installers.

That's EXCELLENT! It is very similar to what we had mostly suggested when Galaxy installers were introduced. Well done. I had already re-started buying games since NWN is still in the library and now this solution mostly restored my faith in GOG.

I believe yes. Because that's how things have been so far. I only download now so called "back up installers" and Galaxy see them after the installation.

I believe they only removed the need for 2 different kinds of installers this way. Less hessle for everyone.

IronArcturus: Is there a way to turn off this huge "Download and Install Now" Galaxy button in the game shelf? A lot of GOG users don't want to use Galaxy.

Groowigo: Adblock works.
uBlock Origin does as well.

edit: Just to mention.

Nice improvement. So now there is only one offline installer package that has to be supported and it does not include Galaxy. Should take a bit off GOGs workload as well. Good solution, thank you GOG :)

So it did take quite a while but they kept the promise they gave when we visited them in Warsaw. I am so happy about this.

immi101: it is still unclear to me what this is trying to accomplish ?
Just redirect the "BIgBlueButton" to download the galaxy client would effectively achieve the same and would be much easier to implement & maintain.
Not exactly. This BBB is not only installing Galaxy (if it hasn't been installed correctly), it will also initiate the game download from inside Galaxy.

Edit: But this was already answered by a blue - didn't see this. Sorry.

cachirulo: noob question: When I click on a large game on my library, and then on 'offline backup game installers', I get several chunks to download (part 1, part 2 etc). This doesn't happen with Galaxy.

So am I expected to worry about several downloads instead of a single click, if I choose the 1st way?
Cheers!
You can still try the GOG downloader which is not officially supported anymore (though it still works fine for me) by accessing this. To use this for download you will have to install it and then use the so called "gog downloader links" that you can acess by clicking "more" after you clicked on your game. If you use those GOG downlaoder will download every part of the offline installer with one click.

If you really are interested in downloading offline installers and it is too much of a hassle for you to click "more" every time also take a look at this great script here.

And if you don't mind usoing scripts I would also highly suggest this as well.

Edit: Or you can do what BKGaming said and use Galaxy to download offline installers (totally forgot about this option)
