So I'm playing (for the n-teenth time) Jagged Alliance. The game is a solid turn based tactical strategy in itself, but what really makes it an amazing game, and keeps me replaying it, is the wonderful voice acting. Every merc and all other characters has a huge voice set. Plus the interaction between some of them is great too. You really start identifying with them and often I choose them based on their personalities more then their skills.

So are there any more games out there that are medium to good, but have an amazing secondary factor that by itself changes it into a great game. By secondary I mean something peripheral, so NOT for example a puzzle game that has great puzzles.

The other game I can think of is the comic strips in the original Max Payne. Really loved those.

Could it be your just missing some real people to talk to, so you associate more with voice acting in games :o)

I agree Max Payne (1+2) was very good, voice acting, and capturing the whole atmosphere.

BG had some of the most memorable dialog to me, "My pubs as clean as an elven ass" - for example, and I am sure most will remember the "You must gather your party before adventuring forth".

Other than that nothing really sticks in memory for spoken dialogue, I tend to find it annoying when the speak and display text as well, and a large proportion of what I play tends to be more quips and such like (Shadow Warrior recent for instance, VHelsing). There doesn't seem to be that many spoken dialog heavy games I come across.

No, I post here on the forums besides playing games.

First thought: Blood Knights.

I don't know if it technically qualifies because it's not medium-to-good so much as objectively terrible by pretty much every measure, but the characters' tendency to respond to potentially world-ending disaster with passive-aggressive snark made me fall in love with the game. I'm hardly the only one, either; it's surprising just how many people ended up enjoying the game despite its badness. There's also a quicksave and toggle to a different camera angle that you're never told about that make things that much more enjoyable.
JA1 or JA2? I'm currently working my way through 2, and having an absolute blast (with 1.13)

JA1.

I haven't tried 2 yet but I plan to sometime soon.
