Merry Christmas, brother. May you have a mild & comfortable day.

Catventurer: It's still the afternoon of Christmas Eve here in California.
Snow is something that I only see if I'm watching a winter-themed movie.
You have made me sad now. I want to send you a bunch of snow just so you can experience it first hand. But that is so expensive these days and it would probably melt and cause a mess. So in leiu of snow I hope you have a fun day.
Merry Christmas! : ) I Have heard about white Christmas and found fog, thick like milk, everywhere around this morning. Awesome! : D 🌫️ 😶‍🌫️

Timboli: In any case have a great day on the 25th of December.

idbeholdME: Most of EU is 24th. But the day after is fine too I guess :)
Yeah here 24th is the day we share gifts and eat Christmas food etc., but I actually prefer the 25th because it has none of that "compulsory" Xmas stuff. On the 25th, you can just relax, not do anything besides playing some game etc.

Here, this week only Monday (23rd) and Friday (27th) are normal work days, others are public holidays (Tue-Thu). I've understood from movies and shit that in US it is different, they get off the work only for maybe half of the 25th, other days are normal work days for everyone.

They also have a three day summer vacation in US, from what I've heard. Quite enough to go to a vacation to Thailand with the whole family, even though all three days go to flights alone. Still worth it tho!

Ps. In southern Finland it is not a white Christmas either, and not most of the northern Finland either (Lapland) from what I've heard, where tourists go to see the fake Santa Claus and a real life reindeer, and eat reindeer meat too, with mashed potatoes and cowberry jam. The temperature has been mostly well over 0 C degrees for many days so most if not all snow has melted, there have been rains (no snowing) etc.

Quite disgusting winter weather actually, damn you climate change!!! If I wanted this kind of Wet Dark Christmas, I'd move to Denmark or Germany!

For early January they are promising colder weather here, maybe we will get some snow back then.

In Europe, 24th is the celebration day (even though it is called an "eve" here too), 25th is mostly a relaxation day, maybe religious types go to church on the 25th. Or if you have older relatives somewhere, you might visit them during 25-26th.

As for snow, I've heard there should be many ski resorts in California?

It somehow blows my mind there can be snow and ski resorts that much to the south (California is at about as far to the south as northern Africa/ Arabic countries, from what I understand; southern Finland, where I live, is about the same level as Anchorage in Alaska), but I guess anything is possible if you have high enough mountains... Or is it fake snow there, made out of plastic chips?

Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas, to all of you!

In my part of the world most people are non Christians. However, the spirit of the festival is very much present with people visiting churches, having cakes, general lighting and decorations around towns and an overall festive atmosphere. After all it is happiness that is valuable whether you identify with one religion or another, or none.

Work_Account_1: Given the title I almost thought you were talking about the site formally known as twatter.
I've never used Twitter or Twatter or X as it now seems to be called. And I'm no real fan of the Muskrat.

So total coincidence, and while the very odd person called Elon Musk might own a site and or company called X, he doesn't own X. His X did not factor in the slightest with this thread I created. But of course, some folk will see connections where there aren't any, or just like to cause chaos ... not unlike Elon Musk himself.

In prior years I have just called Christmas, Xmas myself, since I stopped being religious, but it occurred to me that X alone looks sufficient, coupled with Merry, and in a way is more inclusive, as the 'mas' aspect can be taken as still being religious, as in 'mass'.

For me the 'mas' means Xmas simply has mass appeal to many, regardless of religious belief or not.

My take on Xmas or Christmas, is more about what it can mean and be for folks, rather than what some folk believe it solely is. I look at the Merry and Good side of it, the giving and receiving, and even the forgiving aspect that is often associated ... Good Will To All Folk and all that jazz. A kind of force for positivism etc, as the world clearly has more than enough negativity much of the time.

Work_Account_1: Yes those things can be fun and having the extra time with family is always a bonus. Thanks for the kindly thread. I hope you enjoy your holiday season, and the same goes out to everyone else who drops by. Merry Christmas!
Thanks and to you too. :)

I'm quite okay not experiencing snow. If it did snow here, I would go into full hermit mode until the snow passed just because nobody here would know how to drive in the stuff.

California is a large state. It's the third largest in terms of land mass where Finland is about 80% the size of California. I'm actually in Northern California. The Internet claims its a 6 hour drive to Disneyland from where I'm at. Having made that drive years ago, it's actually more like 10+ hours.

While I'm technically only a few hours away from the ski resorts in Lake Tahoe, that requires going through the mountains. Any time a weather system comes through that can drop snow in the mountains, there's a risk the mountain roads between here and Lake Tahoe will shut down because of unsafe conditions. I'm not willing to risk going up there and getting stuck on the wrong side of a road closure as I have a 16 year old cat with diabetes and early stage kidney diseases.

You're not the only who thinks Elon Musk doesn't have the X Factor.
Like Zuck the cuck is any better on Fakebook?
