Edit*: Well, after several attempts it worked. So, there are some server issues indeed, it seems.

The redemption system (back end) each time is potentially hammered : for GIFT codes (GOG) / or Amazon codes for a game in the catalog.... (it's doesn't matter the code: it's the back end which could be hammered) I'm not surprised anymore by anything >.>

At least my DVD version was tied to Steam. If you find a used copy, it should be unusable as it would be tied to the first owner's Steam account.

I remember getting the original version of Metro 2033 for free on Steam years ago and then they delisted the original version from the store after the free giveaway.

I find it weird they didn't include the original version with the Redux version like some remasters do but has given away the original version for free sometimes after they delisted the original version...

Whatever trouble they had, it appears to be over now. I just redeemed without a hitch.

I already got it but it seems turning it into a gift code is possible. In the past this option did not seem to work if i already got the game. In theory, a giveaway should even be attainable by someone who already got it, by turning it into a gift code.

I even already had a main game of a game package but instead of giving me a gift code for the "additional copy" they just handed out nothing. Perhaps in some cases the support may validate such a code but it is not initially possible in most cases, according to my experience.

Yeah, the server was kinda "crashing" or even acting strange yesterday in the evening. It seems the amount of users accessing it was huge. Apparently even Steam was somewhat affected.

As far as i remember i did not even pay that much... i guess this game was around 2-4 USD at some sales. Still, many people who would like to play it still did not get it at that price, for whatever reason.

Whats funs: Actually i got a non redeemed Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition-GOG key, but this version is not available anymore. I got this game on my account, but it does not seem possible to buy it anymore.
Yet it seems "paired" with the very pricey Enhanced Edition almost no one actually was asking for.

Apart from the now not redeemed Metro 2033 it is the only not redeemed key i got.

Speaking of that, I also got the original free over there several years ago, probably same occasion. Anyone familiar with the games know if the Redux works better than the original? I remember having troubles with trying to play it, but that was long ago.

We had Metro Last Light Redux for free and now 2033 Redux, it's really generous.

When I redeemed this I got an email saying that "your friend <MYSELF - MY OWN EMAIL ADDRESS> has gifted you this game" - and I've got till May 24th to redeem it.

Normally these things just add to my library in the same way as a bought game - but bought for "£0.00".

PS/ Mind you, come to think I might have already bought "Metro 2033 Redux" years ago anyway. My memory is just gone these days! :D But it's weird getting an email saying that "your friend, who is actually also YOU, has sent you a gift". And the email did only appear minutes after I tried to claim this freebie - so ok, it's not a phishing attempt or anything.

PPS/ I hated "Metro Last Light" anyway! So won't likely enjoy Redux either, and won't be downloading it - especially when reading the bad reviews, I find it's WORSE even that the raw glue consistency excrement Last Light was!!!!!!! :D

Some prefer the original version over the Redux version because of the atmosphere...

The original version has a more "horror" feel to it while the Redux version has a more "action" feel to it.

Damn I missed the whole drama, the web site is working ok for me albeit I can't redeem any freebie but then I have the game already so no matter.

I have to always do that now, as a change GOG made some time ago to their website, screwed a few things for me, probably related to my version of Windows and or the browser I am using.

All you see from running that link, is [] at the top left.
So to double check you got it, either check your library or your Orders & Settings page.

Then go and check your Subscription settings, and make sure you are happy with those.
