Tauto: I would get Mueller to investigate.
Good idea. We need to know if the other driver colluded with Russia during or before their driving test.

Time frame is a massive problem, here.
Get a lawyer
Do your homework and go to an office for a legal consultation. Most of them do it for free.
Call Bob Loblaw.

What to expect.

PookaMustard: So I have a friend in the United States (Utah to be more precise) who had a car accident and will possibly face legal trouble. What happened is that while backing away from the parking, he bumped into a parked car. According to him, there was almost no damage to either car.

Rather than file the report to the police as needed by the law, a family member that was with him at the time persuaded him to just keep driving.

A couple hours later, the police called him to inform him of a jury taking place tomorrow. The expected punishment for what he did is this, and honestly, I don't like it one bit. Is there anything he could do to lessen the punishment to a fine, at the very least?

Input from a U.S. lawyer would be much appreciated.
Which GTA are you talking about?
As a few of you have said, it turns out he was just called into court (not jury) a week from now, as he clarified later. He was initially very panicked and was worried that he could face severe legal repercussions, larger than he is.

According to him, he's not even going to face the punishment I linked. He's looking at this instead. Up to 3 months in jail and up to $750 in fines is certainly much better, especially when jail time is concerned.

For those saying it was a scam, ultimately you'd have to believe it for yourself, but my friend had been honest about this and was just as equally distressed. He first told me of the accident itself and how it made him feel like crap. A couple hours later, he told me of the court case, very more distressed than before. I've known him for years, and I've little to believe he's planning a scam without first doing anything shady earlier. Plus, if he were to prank me, he wouldn't use something as serious as the law system, and I have no reason to believe he's pranking us.

Now for those who are..."why are you asking random idiots on this forum for legal advice" or "get a lawyer", I honestly don't need these responses. He IS getting a lawyer. I'm asking you guys in the hopes that someone can talk from a position of experience (see OldFatGuy's or DarrkPhoenix's responses) and can provide any assurance or tips to handle the situation. Either way, thank you all for giving me some peace of mind about this.

Maybe the thread title is a bit unfortunate, because you're asking for "legal advice". That, together with the fact that you didn't mention a lawyer in the OP, might have indicated that you're seeking professional advice here.

I'll admit I kind of didn't do well with the thread. I rushed it at night and only learned of the more up to date information right after posting it. By then I was only on mobile where I wasn't logged onto GOG.
