I just bought some games on GoG for the first time and they are failing to download because the speed is far too slow (less than 0.1mb/s but is actually even slower than that, or doesn;t make progress) . I am in China and have a decent connection speed, do I require a VPN to make GoG work properly?

Yes. As far as I can remember, GOG's download servers are blocked by the country's firewall.

Thanks paladin 181. Ugh... that firewall is crime against humanity. I'll get one and let you know if that fixed the problem.

most of your government is a crime.

but I will leave my opinion at that. :|
I'm not sure what their deal is. Most games with a "big bad" either have them as some fictional country that is vaguely Middle Eastern sounding, vaguely Central American sounding, or Nazis, or Russians. Many games feature China and Chinese culture in a positive light. Hell, videogames eat kung fu cliches for breakfast.
You might want to ask fronzelneekburm, I think he lives in China. But you need to allow conversations with anyone in your Privacy settings, if you want to use the Chat.

Or try the Chinese forum.

gabetuf: *snip*
It was mentioned in another thread that someone had a download issue that they blamed on their antivirus:

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/issue_with_tls_on_gog_site

There hasn't been any follow up on to what antivirus they were using but you may want to try turning yours off to see if that helps any.

Hope this helps
