_Auster_: The forum software is, in the lack of a better word,
problematic.
Notifications are only through the purple dot that appears besides the "community" button that appears in every page of the site, but the purple dot became faulty some months ago and now you either need to use a small script to remove it, or hope a sale notification or the notification about a coming soon game you were following appear, since dismissing these notifications also removes the purple dot (most of the time).
And finding specific posts in the forum is hard, since it's not optimized for browsing past the first page of posts, it only sorts posts by latest comments, the search function is utterly broken and bookmarking threads to find with ctrl F later can be tiresome and having more than 2500-ish posts bookmarked makes GOG's API break and then you can't load the forum main page unless you remove enough posts from your bookmarks (I found out about that the hard way).
Having news posts, forum games and normal posts all mixed together also doesn't help much when trying to find something specific.
Thank you for the thorough image-painting.
Sounds a bit like the Star Citizen forums, haha. ... 'Can only be a matter of years before low-priority stuff like that gets fixed.'
