I am a Linux user.

"Back in the day", I was a master with WINE. I played Fallout, Fallout2, and many games on Linux via WINE.

Then in 2011, I had a stroke, and everything I knew was gone. I just couldn't figure out how to use WINE to install Fallout for the life of me. I *just* purchased a "copy* of Fallout via GOG, even though I have an original CD when it first came out. I did _eventually_ download Fallout. The whole brain damage due to my stroke was a major PITA.... but I did run Fallout for a few minutes, to make sure that it would run properly.

I would like to thank the people at GOG for doing what you/they do.
I guess I would like to thank the users at GOG also.

Thank you all!
If you like Fallout, consider trying UnderRail.
I'm just glad you seem to be okay!
Damn, that's quite a story. And weirdly heartwarming.

I would definitely not recommend it. Getting it to run in wine is a pain in the ass. You'll be lucky if it works at all. I have other objections to this game as well, but this is not the place for that discussion. I would recommend Wasteland 2 if you want something else, since it has a more direct heritage, and is Linux-native.
I don't mean to come across as a dick, I'm sorry to hear about your stroke and wishing you well. But if Linux is giving you issues, should maybe switch up to Windows to make things easier for you? Just a suggestion because win10 is a serious doddle compared to other OSes.
I used to be a Mathematician, pre-stroke. I am unable to work, and thus I play games all day. (it keeps me off the streets). I play an MMORPG called Ryzom, and I seem to be addicted to Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands The Pre-Sequel. I have several THOUSAND hours on these games over the past 2_1/2 years.

Most, but not all, of my games on Steam are Linux "versions".

And I do have Wastelands 2. Got my butt kicked a few times, I will play it again in the future, though.

AND.... No "Computer Wars", please. I am a bit of an @$$, I have been using Linux (and UNIX) since the early 1990s, and in 2005 I have used Linux exclusively in my home computer. I will not "change my ways" with Linux/Windows/Apple/whatever.....

Also: Thank you for your responses, guys.

Have a good game!
I'm glad to hear you're doing well after the stroke! Enjoy Fallout and happy gaming!

Yeah well, some times things just sound worse than intended.

Wow, what a blow of fate and also a fine example why video games can be good for people. Have fun with Fallout 1+2. :)
The thread title sounds like it should be a country ballad :D You can even sort of sing it to the melody of The Gambler. (no disrespect to the OP)

He did not use windows, he just stared at linux
'Til boredom overtook him, and he began to play.

Now Ev'ry gamer knows that the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' when to save and knowing when to load.
'Cause ev'ry turn's a winner and ev'ry turn's a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to fix that laser gun.
