The long-awaited "Director's Cut" version of Montezuma's Revenge, envisioned and programmed by the original developer – Montezuma's Revenge - Director's Cut is now available on GOG!

Finally, you will fight King Montezuma! Avoid the spiders, skulls, snakes and bats as you guide our hero, Pedro, in exploration of Montezuma's Pyramid to claim its treasure. This is the classic 2D open-exploration platformer where you run, jump, climb and fight your way to the finish. There are 9 levels of pyramids to explore!

Now on GOG!
Thank you!
I played this as a kid!

andysheets1975: That's the original version of the game, with a few QOL improvements and updated graphics you can toggle. This new one is more like an expanded remake in which the creator implemented a boss fight that he couldn't fit in the original, along with several new gameplay elements.
Actually, it seems that the game has been almost entirely redesigned, to the point where almost all the content is new.

From the itch.io demp page:
This has become a totally new Montezuma Game. Nearly every room has been overhauled with amazing new features and interactive geometry.

From a developer comment on the itch.io page:
It's nearly a totally new game with the familiar characters! There are new exploding pots, trampolines, elevators, activation switches, BOSS challenges, 97% all new rooms and more!

In summary, they're entriely different games with the game characters and gameplay similarities, but different content. Hence, neither version obsoletes the other, and if you enjoy one version it's worth getting the other.

allope: Does this one have a modern / retro graphics toggle like the other one? I did not see it demonstrated in the video.

JamesBond007: Nope. Maybe there will be a future update with this feature, but current version has only retro mode.
Thanks 4 the FYI!
