Painted_Doll: I only saw positive things both in your post and in your review . :)
And? I say positive things when positive is earned, same goes for negative.

IronArcturus: Does anyone know if a save from the original Shovel Knight is compatible with the Specter of Torment update?
avatar
haydenaurion: Should be, it was for me. Just backup the save files, uninstall the old version and then install the new version.
Thanks for the info! :)

No prob. Keep in mind you'll have to start the game at least once after installing for it to generate the file folder that holds the saves, then move or copy your backups into that folder. That's for Windows by the way.

More info on the save file location here: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Shovel_Knight#Game_data

I *love* the music in the new trailer. Any other music in this style you would recommend? (Baroque/Classical style with a mixture of 8-bit sounds and orchestral instruments)

Anyway, I'm trying to decide whether to take a break from Torneko: The Last Hope to play this new Shovel Knight expansion. I think I will, since Torneko is being rather stubborn about learning a few Warrior skills (Drop-X in particular).

Edit: I already started it. I like the way every stage's music (at least that I have checked so far) has been remixed for Specter Knight. There is one room in the intro level that I had trouble clearing.

I think I may still end up preferring Plague Knight's controls, however.

Thumbs up for the free update. Thank you for providing this from your fancy yachts! ;D
Being the scatterbrained being that I am I completely forgot about this until last night. I was quite pleased when some google searching turned up a released date of the 5th.

And here I am, dying a lot more than I really should playing the specter campaign...

Seriously, I died about eight times in the same pit in the fist level trying to get one of those red skulls. Didn't even know what they were for yet, just knew I wanted it.

Oh well, guess platforming skills deteriorate. I'm not even that old yet...

Or possibly I just wasn't as good as I remember...

Well, Spectre Knight plays pretty differently from the other characters. Just because you're used to Shovel Knight means you'll automatically master Spectre Knight from the getgo. I died quite a few times trying to air slash an enemy only to dash downwards into a pit.

I was more referring to platformers in general. Was pretty OK at them back in the day... when I was like 16.

Not quite as young, or good, any more.
Lets just say I'm very happy they removed the Lives mechanic where you'd have to restart a level or the entire game from scratch when you ran out that early platforming games used.

Edit: not that I'm all that old either... some of the people I see posting their ages on this site?... yeah they make me look young.

Thanks a lot for the free update. It's very much appreciated.
I'm glad I bought this game before this DLC and price spike decision came about.
I finished the main game(Shovel Knight) and will do Plague and Spectre Knight soon! :)
It's a super nice gift, I'll play it straight away!
Thankyou for more content, and free nonetheless! Very appreciated.

I'm enjoying it, but there was a surprise unskippable cutscene that bothers me.

Specifically, once you get all the curios, if you talk to the creature who collects them, that creature will offer to buy your skulls for 500 each. When you do that, a lengthy unskippable cutscene will start. When I am almost done playing, this sort of thing is *not* appreciated, especially when I am just doing business around town and am not expecting a cutscene to trigger.

Edit: Why is this post "low rated"?

Finally, another character I don't suck at playing!

Plague Knight was not a lot of fun for me, just kept dying over and over again, but this guy is more my style.
Looks great! Thanks guys!

It is a pity to see yet another game without GOG Galaxy achievements, however.
