Build bridges, grow towers, terraform terrain, and fuel flying machines – in World of Goo 2, now available on GOG with a 15% launch discount until May 9th, 5 PM UTC!

Discover realistic flowing, splashing, viscous liquid. Route the flow of liquid like a river, convert it into Goo Balls, extinguish fires, and solve puzzles.

Now on GOG!
Wow! This is considerably more expensive here than on EGS ($13.99) and Steam ($10.49).

I'm very glad to finally see it come here, but what's up with the markup of $20 for GOG?

dnovraD: 30 bones for a sideways bridge constructor sequel?
It's a sequel to World of Goo, which you obviously never played.

Er, no, it's $25.49 on Steam (same price as GOG) and $29.99 on Epic (cheaper on GOG).

can't wait to buy the package on EPIC to test my building skills once again

Oh, I played it. Just didn't stick. And it really is a vertically oriented physics puzzle about building structures. Sometimes towers, sometimes bridges.

Pretty obvious that it "didn't stick" given how uselessly reductive it is comparing it to Bridge Constructor, especially since that post-dates World of Goo.
Well this has one immediately-noticed giant glaring flaw:

The idiots designing the game decided, "oh, you know what people love in puzzle games? TIME CHALLENGES".

So every stage now has an extraordinarily restrictive, practically impossible time [bonus] challenge attached to it.

Fucking ridiculous. Instant taunting feelsbad for every stage right from the first one.

All of the OCD challenges are optional, just like the first game. You don't get anything by doing them, aside from a little flag on the map; they're basically just mini-achievements. Do them if you want, ignore them if you don't. It would certainly be a flaw if it was required, but it's just a bonus for anyone who wants some extra challenges. In my case, the OCD goal for saving gooballs is only one of the three that interests me so it's the only one I've spent any time trying to achieve. I've done the time and moves goals on a few of the shorter levels but otherwise I don't care about them at all. The only thing that actually matters is beating the levels.

If you were required to beat the levels within that time limit to progress, that would have indeed been horrible. But just an extra challenge? No big deal, supposing it doesn't affect something like the ending for example.

Seems like a bit of an overreaction to be honest and a strange thing to get "taunted" by. It's like trying to take the level par times in Doom seriously, for example. Although that game actually taunts you if you take over an hour in a level, with the stat screen showing "TIME: SUCKS".

The OCD challenges are fine. Optional or not doesn't matter -- it's absurd they did the time ones.

But time trials have no purpose being in a puzzle game. It's literally down to the sensor sensitivity of your input device.

It's more about being familiar with the level and being able to efficiently complete it in ways that aren't necessarily obvious. It's not absurd, because there are people who enjoy that. I'm not one personally, but I'm certainly not going to "feel bad" that I don't have much interest in completing the OCD time challenges.

Too bad gog stopped supporting ideal payments. If I have to go to the trouble of using an alternative payment method, I may as well buy directly from the dev's website.

I suggest doing exactly that.
Not only do you get a DRM-free build that way (distributed through Humble Bundle), but, unless I’m mistaken, it’s how the developers get the highest cut from the sale price.
This would have been an Insta-Buy here if I didn't already buy it directly from the developers (also DRM-free!).

It may have been an EGS exclusive -- I often forget that store exists -- but the developers have been selling the game from their website (via Humble Store) since the game's release on 2024-08-02.

My sons (age 10, 12) both played the original when they were little, and enjoyed the sequel.
