I'm not sure how many of you are fans of Rune Classic, but it was a great Viking themed action game from around 2000 and is currently on sale for a ridiculously cheap price.

Rune Classic is a great game that I can recommend, but I just found out today there has been a sequel in the works: https://www.runeragnarok.com/

The sequel is set to be an open world action RPG based in the same setting. So far it looks fantastic. There is a wichlist for it already if you wish to vote on it: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/rune_ragnarok

At least check it out if it sounds like something you're interested in. So far it looks like it's going to be great and would be an awesome addition to the GoG library!
I ended up rage quitting the original. The first half was amazing but then it got too bogged down with difficult jumping made worse by the fact that saves are checkpoint, so you'd do six hard jumps in a row, screw up the seventh, and have to start over...and over...and over...and over.

The devs are open to bringing it here and it's in the unofficially announced for release thread so it's likely to come to GOG

That's great news! That just made my weekend! There aren't nearly enough good games based on Norse mythology.

While searching to see if they announced what platforms they would be using, I found a previous thread in this forum. I guess I missed the previous one.

Looking through their site and forums, it also looks like they are fully supporting single player and have a full multiplayer aspect as well. I really hope they accomplish what they're planning, I certainly will have no problem paying full price at launch for it.

So many great new games coming out this year are going to make me broke

The original Rune is one of the best games I ever played. I loved every minute of it. I have SO many fond memories of that game. It had such great architecture, such innovative gameplay, and it was just endlessly surprising. Sometimes you had to take a "leap of faith" and jump off a cliff to get to the other side, not knowing if a gust of wind would buoy you up and carry you across. Or you might have to jump onto a giant "timpani/trampoline" to bounce over to the next spot. Or stand on a "spout" in the swamp so when it outgasses it pushes you up so you can catch a ledge.

But my favorite memory is the creepiest. You're running down a hall with giant marble statues against the side walls, and after passing a couple of them I could "swear" I saw something out of the corner of my eye, like... "did that statue just try to hit me?" So you turn the corner, and when I went down the NEXT hallway with statues, I went much slower and looked at each one to make sure it didn't do anything. Finally you come to the last corner, and I crept upto the edge, just barely peeking my eyes around the corner, and as soon as I barely exposed myself, ALL the statues on the wall s-l-o-w-l-y swiveled to face me, as if to say... "that's right, boy! we're going to GET YOU if you come down this hall!" I can just picture the developers setting up this "trap" and giggling away at the hopes that somebody would see it!

It looks great, and Rune was a great game. My concern comes in at the mention of "open world". Runs was pretty linear and good for that, every open world game I have played gets dull and grindy very quickly. It's a vast open space and no-one has time to fill it properly so cut and paste scenery, missions, repeat the same actions over and over etc. All open worlds are marred by this, DA inquisition, skyrim, oblivion without mods, shadows of mordor etc. Would be far better with a great storyline, more linear, with maybe a smaller margin around the main story.
I remember some servers you used to go on and people would just be building shit.

you remember the servers where you just build shit?

remember dat loki snake spawn bind?

who remembers 1on1 lightsabers?

tarps amirite?

so yeah I thought it was pretty cool that announcement of the rune game.

Witcher 3 is one of the very few exceptions to the big and empty open world boredom. I can't think of any others off the top of my head that didn't become "grind and complete everything before I get bored and quit"
Annnnd that's what I forgot to do yesterday... I saw Rune Classic on sale yesterday in class and wanted to pick it up when I got back to my room, but I forgot and did homework instead... :/ (Teaches me about priorities! :P) Oh well, guess I got to wait until next time it goes on sale!
