mystikmind2000: Yea, that must be true, we can tell by all the refugees that are trying to move there, and then when they do move there, they want to change it in such ways that will in the end turn it into the same place they just escaped from!!!
Who made them refugees?

Not withstanding the pitfalls of generalizations... In most cases the refugees made themselves refugees in so far as they were part of the population that voted for the crappy leaders they got, and steered their country in the crappy direction it went in, all going hand in hand with ignorance and intolerance and then, like i said, when they do get to the west, they spread that same shit which ruined their own country all over again!

Mr_Pennywise: Did not know they were considered a religion wow

Well each to their own

as long as there dont harm anyone
Technically it is a christian sect, since Satan is a character in the christian mythology. But then again every sect ever calls itself religion, so why not them...
Kotaku, still doing click bait.
I shant be giving any clicks to NOPEtaku, but I think it's safe to assume this is more of the anti-thought bs infecting society at large.

Obvious questions raised by the claim that "Satanists say video games help them practice their religion":

1. So what? The unwritten implication that "Satanist" is a bad thing, remains totally unsubstantiated.

2. Satanism has many conflicting branches within (and even separate from) its banner, going well beyond just the distinction of theistic Satanism and atheistic Satanism. To say "Satanist" as a blanket inclusion of all types, is essentially to create a meaningless straw man argument. To a lesser degree, the same is true about different denominations within Christianity and other religions, even Buddhism.

3. The other unwritten implication that something MUST be done about this horror! Say even that they can prove that "Satanism" is some terrible moral wrong. That still doesn't get you to "videogames are a bad thing." This is clearly illustrated if you take a similar fearmongering reasoning like "Ted K said the postal service helped him carry out his crimes, so let's ban mail." It just doesn't wash. The object is not ancillary to the "bad" being committed.

4. So what if Satanists say video games help them practice their religion? What if they are lying? If other Satanists disagree and say the videogames are not actually helpful in anyone practicing the religion, which one is right? Does it make any difference if a higher-ranking Satanist (such as in The Church of Satan) were to say videogames are not helpful in practicing Satanism, even if lower-ranking adherents were claiming it was?

5. (I am not a fan of this type of argument but...) Even if Satanism could be proven as "bad," and it was also proven that videogames were helpful in practicing it, doing so in videogames might still be the "lesser evil" compared to other means of practicing it.
I'm worried a bit that some readers of this article unaware of methods of manipulation and deception performed by satanists (appareantly the view presented here is some sort of "ideological" satanism, rather than luciferian satanism) may believe in those thesis about "constructive" and "positive" vision of world by satanists. Because such picture is drawn by the quotes introduced in this article.

On the one hand - someone could say how naive one should be to repeat (or believe) such nonsense but... On the other, hand, people in western Europe (probably in US as well) are surprisingly often using services of various "fortune tellers" "witches" etc, and by some reason they strongly believe in stuff they're hearing from such, khem, "services". So yeah, I guess that in effect we've got plenty potential "victims" of this informational deception from satanists.

Eh, it gives us all something to talk about all alleviate the boredom between other stuff we choose to do. As long as one doesn't become an NPC or fall too much for the outrage then it's sometimes ok to read or consume such.

IwubCheeze: Should this surprise you?

We live in a world where there are people that still believe in the Nibiru cataclysm, jet vaportrails containing mind control chemicals and Obama having a weather controlling machine.

Honestly, I expect rampant stupidity in this day and age.
If someone had a weather dominator that'd be tight...well for them, I mean....not so much for others.

It occurred to me that incorporating video games into a religion could result in a great deal of mischief.

Suppose they deify Pikachu.

Pokemen and related paraphenalia could become offlimits to other believers who have a ban on graven images.

The next step would be to worship football personified and idolise the smartphone form factor as the representation of the 2001 Space Odyssey monolith.

Catcachumen(spelling?) was another very badly done game similar to bibleman, with ripped off graphics/sounds and sword textures slapped on top of gun ones which made gun sounds despite being swords. It was really weird to play when i found it in a bargain bin.
