rtcvb32: I remember trying this game. The left/right mouse buttons are backwards, and i remember trying to leave the village only to collapse into some tunnels and getting gang-banged to death.

So... not sure.
At least you were able to *find* the starting village.

In Hoshi wo Miru Hito, you are dumped right onto the world map right by the starting town, but said starting town is *invisible*. (It's clearly intentional, as somebody in town comments about the town being invisible.)
(The game gets many other basic things wrong, like weapons making your attacks useless against mid to late game enemies, and you can't unequip them once they're equipped.)

Find? No, plot dictates you crashland there or nearby and you start off in the village.

There i recall was a lot of lore, how the species only lived to like 6 but some could transfer consciousness to a younger body effectively giving immortality to a few. Though i don't recall much outside that,

Melandrhild: ...
Surprised no one mentioned The Longest Journey. It has an interesting mix of science fiction and fantasy, and is a great game overall.

I'd rather start off in a village than start in the middle of nowhere, with the nearby village being invisible, and no other place to buy starting equipment.
