You think that fried the components?
I'm not exactly eager to click a mystery link.

What is the point of this thread? It's a PSU going pop, that's it?
"after a couple dozen tries it has stopped making sparks"
I would have checked all my components ASAP with another PSU, instead of playing with the sparks.. O_o'

If I suspect the PSU of failing, I remove it straight away and take it to someone for a checkup. No need to let it destroy half of the computer. Often the motherboard is taken out unless the PSU has plenty of fuses and such.

Did not click on the link.

Sounds like the title of the next smash hit game out of Japan. :P
I'm lost. You admit on that link to turning on the PSU a couple dozen times to see sparks, and then want to blame Seasonic in case some other components got fried?

If it fries, it dies. If i can't fry, no one fries.

Perfect for your thread.
To be fair, Seasonic had me back up an running after 5 days (2 of the days were weekend days). And they sent the new one before I even sent the old one back.
Did other components get smoked, or was that speculation based on the sparks? If the other stuff survived, well, that's good news.
Seems like you got the bad luck of the draw with this one. Even good parts and part manufacturers can fail, unfortunately. My friend and large chunks of the internet swear by Gigabyte mobos and GPUs, but I've had two of their mobos die on me (the second taking some parts with it). Unfortunately, it happens.

Well, there is indeed something going on with Gigabyte products - I also saw myself some malfunctions.
The other brand for me with similar "history" is LG.
Nothing fried. But it's still lame. This isn't some rare thing anymore. Manufacturers just don't care. I mean... yeah...

none of them care.

I think this sort of problem is why gopro is going out of business. No one wants to waste money on stuff that doesn't work. (see the 20 and 30 percent 1 star ratings on amazon and all the complaints about melting and freezing and crap battery life).
