I would say the previous design was broken, a lot of people complained and new users couldn't find where to download games or Galaxy. At least the button isn't red because we all know you have to press red buttons.

kizuxtheo: Maybe people like the convenience of having everything in the same place?
Something that can be achieved perfectly well by your operating system without the need for a 'client' program.

Moonsorrow.331: i don't know, but I'm scared that they could get rid of the offline installers all together.

blotunga: They said many times that they don't intend to do that. If they do, I think a lot of people will stop buying games here.
Where are they going to go? The place with a download client AND with DRM? I know a lot of people here associate anything like clients and profiles to be evil and betrayal, but GOG is about DRM free, not necessarily modern feature free. If they want to compete more and more with Steam they have to get these features.

That's not limited to GOG...

Do nothing: People complain about standstill.
Do anything: People complain about change.
Give out free icecream: People complain that it's not vegan, sugar- and fat free and not from Italy and the wafer is not gluten-free...

Many people already use Humble. They also have DRM-free versions, albeit not very convenient to use, but there are. With the added benefit of steam keys (which for some is also an advantage)

It's human nature I guess, people complain.

I agree but it has changed for the better. You need to expect Galaxy shoving as it's their baby and their site.
I don't use Galaxy much, I have limited internet access and downloading a game is an endeavor so I keep every installer backed up. When an update comes out I check the patch notes and manually download it at my leisure. I'm trying to convert to GOG from Steam and I've really grown to appreciate the power and agency offline installers give me.

This new design feels like it's trying to insist we use Galaxy while hiding away the offline installers. While the downloads haven't been removed, it seems to hint that GOG wants to move away from the offline installers and towards Galaxy which doesn't align with my values. Consider my position, the reason why I'm visiting this download page in the first place is because I'm not interested in using Galaxy. I've already made up my mind that I want an offline installer and I've come to this location to retrieve it, at this point it really does feel like Galaxy is being "shoved in our faces" as the title of this topic suggests.

Also I feel like the font and button this new design is too large and bold, almost as if I zoomed in the page too much by accident.

David9855: Stop that, why change the installation style if it's not broken! I don't have GOG Galaxy don't want it, and I shouldn't have to click 'offline' downloads to get to my games.
You don't like the big blue button? Become a Linux gamer, then GOG can't shove Galaxy in your face at all!

This statement says what I feel as well, in better words.

As it was said earlier, this recent change is not a move away from the offline installers but a move to make offline installers more visible.

Oh that's beautiful and really settles my autism.

and to the people who downvoted me, while my post is angry and the user UltimaOnline said it better I'd think you could at least tolerate other points of view.

It may be required by Gog to present Galaxy as a major feature, even in terms of developers/publishers compatibility?
Lets say Gog are trying to persuade a New Steam oriented publisher like Bandai Namco* to publish on Gog.
The publisher will ask for Steam features to allow competent releases, and these should be as approachable to new costumers as the Steam equivalent. Gog needs Galaxy to have presence, otherwise said publisher might be reluctant to join.
Also this may drive some developers to be fully aware Galaxy provide them benefits in terms of patching and updating.

Anyhow, as much as some old timers here are avid against Galaxy, they are a very small minority, and can easily apply a fix.
But most Gog users do want Galaxy to exist in one way or another, and the new approach handles this pretty well:
If you already have Galaxy the site makes it easier to install a game, and if you don't, LTS Galaxy version is always one click away.

* Maybe a bad example as they are pro DRM to the point of suing CDPR for removing it on Witcher 2, but assuming they are less of an heretic now? They are still a major player worth Gog to cater, disregarding indifference of the past.
