gamesfreak64: Anyway, i do not favor or like using any client software maybe its because i grew up playing games and installing my games in the old fashioned way: run a setup and thats it.

HereForTheBeer: That's a large part of my position. Installing games these days isn't that much different from way back when you got a game on floppies: you have the installer files, run the setup, and then play the game. Maybe when the typical manual installation becomes really onerous... but it's nowhere near that point, in my opinion.
Please don't give developers any ideas.

I want GOG to keep releasing non-Galaxy installers. Otherwise I wouldn't spend another cent here.

No DRM, no client, no bull.

summitus: Just wondering how many people are using it now and if everyone is generally happy with it. I had it installed for a short time , hoping to see all games with achievements but uninstalled it since.
No, I forego the use of clients when I can and I have no desire to use it when it has no useful benefits to me, for example, being able to precisely control how I log in and staying out of my way when I just want to organize games.
I find myself using Galaxy to:
* Play games with it
* Track time and compare it to friends
* Get an achievement or two
* Notifications?

I don't have it running all the time; only when I feel like starting up a GOG game nowadays. Personally prefer downloading games through Free Download Manager, and yes, prefer the installers (the classic variant) over having a client download and install the games for me.

Most importantly of it all: I am able to forego the client and play the game without relying on it. It's "convenience" was never a major selling point to me.

That said, downloads through it may often slow down to a grinding halt, the overlay still remains woefully incompatible with MSI Afterburner's own (for screenshots), I may have to login more than one time for a client that basically settle and be at 'home' on your PC, then there's the moments when it just plain crashes (it's been getting more stable recently however).

Basically, I prefer doing things the old-fashioned way. Double click an installer, tell it where to install, then sit back and have fun. Then keep that installer on the side when you need it later. Control is power, after all.

The verdict: I use it, but I can go without it and would when it gives me pain.

I started using galaxy because of Gwent and as a way to have my games more organized. But I hope that they never remove the option of being able to download the games from the page and be able to install them in a more traditional way.
Wow, I never thought when I posted this question there would be so much interesting opinions on Galaxy, I have started to use it again now.Also there is now a great new profile feature. But please gods of Gog ,could we please get more games with achievements ?

I like and use GC. Even though it is slow and huge. But now after this whole profile mess, I do not know what should I do. I hope GOG responds soon to the complaints. Until then I'm keeping my wallet closed. I hope they restore my trust to them and I do not need to go back to Steam.

I did not ask for my gaming stats and library to be published without my permission for all the world to see.

Ah yes I see what you mean now .
Nope!

Pajama: No and I have no intention of installing it. I only play single-player games and as such don't want to add needless extra bloat to my computer, all the more so when the program itself is still in a fairly buggy, beta state. I'm already annoyed that many GOG games add Galaxy dependencies when installing even if Galaxy is not installed.

Just my 2p worth :)

chevkoch: No, not interested in achievements or game time tracking. Also, I would not want to install another (apparently buggy) client when I can play my games without it. That it's marketed as optional, but offered in sneaky, hidden opt-out fashion is what made me like GOG in general a lot less.
+1 to both of these.

So long as offline, self-contained, no-net-connectivity-required DRM-free installers exist and can be downloaded via direct link in my browser (or GOG Downloader, which I'm still fond of but I guess is passe now) I'll be happy with the site.

I also really wish I could opt out of GOG "profiles" altogether, but so long as I can change all the privacy settings to "only me" I can live with it.
Yes, been using it since beta and it's pretty good. I have wanted a client ever since I joined GOG and it's nice to be able to access my games at one place. It could use some improvements here and there but it's been stable so not much to complain about. Only thing I really miss is able to access my games with a controller on the TV, that would be awesome.
None of the Linux GOG Patrons can since GOG says that development is basically on hiatus.
