My eldest son calls the RAM LED lights and colored trim "unicorn barf".

I just rebuilt the guts in the Antec P100 case (no glass, black, sound insulated, dark, plain case fans) with
Ryzen 9 3900X
Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE
32GB DDR4 Crucial Ballistix
Coolermaster liquid CPU cooling
XFX AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC Ultra III.

It was annoying looking for a deal on the liquid cooler and RAM sans RGB LED. At least I could disable all the lights on the motherboard. UGH.

If they're inside, and the RGB items were better priced, why not get them anyhow? It's not like you'd have to look at it.
By the way, do you know of a place where I could download some RGB RAM? I'm aware of a site where I can download "standard" ram (downloadmoreram.com but be warned that the "here" link in "Click here for more info" goes to a site that autoplays video with audio), but where could I download RGB RAM?

Cavalary: LEDs that would work as diagnosis would be useful though, but that's sadly not what they're for.
I mean many motherboards have debug leds or even a digit display.

dtgreene: Problem with RGB RAM is that RAM goes on the *inside* of the computer, so you wouldn't be able to see it anyway.
Clear side panels and internal lighting have existed for the better part of two decades.

To wit - the purpose of RGB RAM is simply: bling. If you don't like it, ignore it. It serves absolutely ZERO practical purpose and is purely aesthetic (and I would argue "of questionable aesthetic taste"... but, that's my personal opinion...)

Just for kicks, I Googled "download RGB RAM". The first hit was Gigabyte's "RGB Fusion" utility. I then Googled "download RGB RAM JOKE"... and the first hit was STILL Gigabyte's "RGB Fusion" utility.

Yes. I LOL'ed.

You can find some RGB Ram at newegg.com
I had a full rarbage full perspex pc before windows and rotating colours profiles was cool.
Now because it's such a consumer staple it's literally the beige box standard for companies trying to markup their products trying to force what they believe is gamer.
What they will never get is what the word enthusiast actually means because it can never be presented by a company, it must come from grass roots enthusiasm of how impressive something is.
It is genuinely impressive to see someone has made a 'keytar' using the old commodore 64 sid chip.
It is genuinely impressive to see someone stuff a high powered pc into an old apple amiga 2.
The only modern impressive things i can think of is in the race for the smallest case at highest spec output (currently i think it's the dan a4 case); and the return of the generational leap in performance in many areas.
Lighting has only been similarly impressive maybe in ambient lighting that syncs with a games screen action in order to improve both immersion and contrast visual fidelity.
Even that though is a bit of a stretch.

TLDR RGB is a marketing gimmick used more often than not to make you pay more for less.
RGB RAM is for sissies.
Go full RGB or go home...

Course, assuming you game on a desktop but if you're a Smartphone gamer there's something for you too

Life without RGB fur is not worth living.
RGB is the reason I keep my computer off when I go to bed. Unfortunately I got a video card and RAM with RBG on them and I have a computer case with a transparent "window", meaning it lights up my room and makes it hard for me to sleep.

No way to turn it off?
I've been keeping even the power LED off for that reason, never connected it to the mb on either this computer or the one I had before it.

I still have a PC speaker though. Pulled it from my old computer and connected it to this one, since at least the motherboard still had the connector, and the BIOS has a setting to beep on boot, so I know it still works at least. No idea whether that will still be an option whenever I'll upgrade though...
My motherboard and my cooler came with RGB. With my case, you can only see when you open the front panel, and then it's just a glow through the air vents. Luckily, I found the either MSI or Ryzen software let me stop them colour cycling and link them to system temperature. Now, I have a quick visible indicator as to whether it's a nice blue cool or a dangerously hot red.

That's the only practical use I've found for RGB. I avoid buying RGB items wherever possible as the lights just distract from gaming or productivity tasks.
