I remember this site prided itself on being a haven for classic old-school PC games that makes them run on modern hardware, and DRM Free to boot.

Now all I see just indie games that in my eyes are just not as interesting as the classics.

So why the hell haven't some classics have been released here by now?

Games like Dungeon Siege, Grand Theft Auto, Mechwarrior, the classic Battlefield games and even Call of Duty 1, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Bishock etc.

Even some games that are missing their older itereations like Rainbow Six 3, SimCity 1 and Civilization 1 and 2.

And we still don't have certain publishers like Microsoft with thier Age of Empires games (and they are selling it on Steam) or SEGA that holds the rights for Total War and 40k Dawn of War games.

AND WE STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN DUKE NUKEM BACK!?

So what's the plan now GOG because right now I clearly see that we are barely Good Old Games anymore.

And this isn't me forsaking this place, I am still supporting you regardless for DRM Free and a much more diverse library of classic games and modern games and interesting indie games but still give us who wants more classic games a bone here.

I mean heck try to convince Valve and Blizzard to give us their old as fuck games.

I don't think asking will shed any light on the matter.
there are thousands of possible reasons, from "we don't like you" to licensing hell, and I doubt anyone could disclose any particular.

Besides, would you all cut it out with this "we are not good old games anymore"? Old games are not infinite.
That's it! Why didn't they think of that? They should just try asking them. Probably no one at GOG even thought of that, let alone tried it!
They hate money.

You can get Bioshock on Humble. Duke Nukem is also available on one of the other DRM free stores, can't for the life of me remember which one.
Dungeon siege is M$ so not going anywhere but Games For Windows Dead 2 - revenge of the abysmal store.
GTA is R*, so only going to be available on their platform.
Don't know about the others, however the easy ones have gone, and focus is switching to more modern games/new devs to cover, so I wouldn't expect a floods of them any time soon.

Yeah, so what's up with that?!? I mean, come on, right? It can't be that hard... or can it? I demand a clear answer, yes or no! No maybes or perhapses or anything like that, just yes or no. Or both!

And I want fresh coffee, and a bigger office, and a car that goes really fast and has a shitty gas mileage. Does it come with cruise control?

Elmofongo: So why the hell haven't some classics have been released here by now?
- A lot of it is publishers have competing stores. Eg, no Age of Empires 1 because MS just did a "Definitive" remake which just happens to be Windows Store exclusive (it isn't even on Steam). AoE2 HD is on Steam but crammed full of DRM (CEG). The originals have been pulled for the same reason Baldur's Gate 1-2 non EE have - pricing vs itself. Personally, I gave up waiting and grabbed the DRM-Free AoE 1-2 Collectors Edition (on DVD-ROM vs original CD-ROM) then added the community patches which add widescreen, fixes bugs, increases population cap, etc. It's literally 99% the same as the re-release minus the DRM...

- Dungeon Siege is Microsoft, so expect the same attitude there. Bioshock should certainly be here given it's on Humble DRM-Free and now 10 years old, but for some reason isn't. At this stage, just buy it on Humble. Skyrim won't be here until they've re-released it at least another 6-8x times to maintain that "new game" pricing until 2040...

- Valve's games will be store-locked for same reason, however Portal 1 and Half Life 1-2 don't actually contain SteamWorks protection, are listed on the List of DRM-Free games on Steam, and I can confirm that once you've got the files, you can zip them up and "roll your own" portable DRM-Free zip / installer out of them and they continue to work without any Steam client.

- Same for Blizzard - once installed from disc, Diablo 2 is actually "portable" and can simply be zipped up. I have it running at 1080p with D2Multires patch.

- Many DOS games on Steam are DRM-Free out of necessity (can't add Windows Steamworks libraries to them), so there's no DRM-related reasons reason why Heretic, Hexen, etc, couldn't be here. It's all down to GOG's effort and publishers willingness.

- A lot of old titles though are due to out of rights games that simply aren't on sale anywhere (eg, Dune, Lemmings, NOLF 1-2, The Neverhood, etc). I don't condone piracy (and I have bought all mentioned games) but there comes a point where there's so much Bullsh*t surrounding IP such as the NOLF scenario, that I absolutely do not blame anyone in 2018 from downloading it from the guy who widescreen + NoCD patched them up and stuck them on nolfrevival.tk. The fact that website is still up 16 months later with zero attempts at DMCA takedowns shows the IP holder's have either abandoned it and don't care or permanently can't find proof that they own it and lack of takedown action is almost tacitly giving people "the quiet nod", which speaks for itself as to the 0% likelihood of it coming here anytime soon. So from the consumers point of view for games in legal limbo, you can either wait another 20, 30, 40 years or...

How about the, uh, 6000 SUX?

Hey, no problem. Let the mayor go and we'll even throw in a Blaupunkt.

Grand Theft Auto is just totally decadent, completely evil series of games. Countless youths have been seduced into a life of crime by it...only to find that it isn't glamorous at all when you've been sentenced to life without parole. That series should never come to Gog anyway, for moral reasons.
Don't really know about the other games. Mechwarrior sounds kind of dubious as well tbh, we don't need any people imitating it and fighting in giant mechs on public streets.

Judging from this thread, I take it I am not the only one who expressed this sentiment.

That's what I get for not participating in the GOG forums for quite awhile now ever since I moved my forum time to other places.
