doctorsinister: I swear if they are going to make another reboot for spiderman with the same villians, I will start smashing pumpkins with my forehead.

Sick and tired of reboots.
Well, they are rebooting Spidey (new actor, adding him to the MCU), but they are not going to re-do his origin and they are staying away from Green Goblin. No confirmation on who the villain in his 2017 solo film will be, but they are taking Spidey back to high school, where he originally fought almost all of his classic villains (Shocker, Mysterio, Doc Ock, Vulture, etc.). Personally, I'd like to see them give Kraven the Hunter a shot, if only to see how they would adapt that costume to the screen.

BoxOfSnoo: I don't really like it, but I'm thinking, why the old spidey suit at all? Isn't it supposed to be Iron Spider at this point?
avatar
rampancy: If they do put it in there, the impression I'm getting is that Parker would get the Iron Spider armor after his initial encounter with Captain America's side. But it'll all greatly depend on how much they're going to diverge from the comic book storyline. My guess is that apart from the big event seen in Captain America #25, we're not going to see much else apart from "big franchise properties punching each other in the face".
Probably. And they wouldn't want to spoil what could be a cool plot point in a trailer.

Breja: I think it's a strange idea to have him be introduced in this movie at all.
Can't disagree with that. I've had strong suspicion that Marvel Studios execs had worried about what Sony would've done further with the character beyond the Amazing Spider-Man film(s), so the quickest way to ease that was to put the character into something as soon as they possibly could once a deal was ironed out that allowed him to appear in the Marvel Studios films.

rampancy: ...but was anyone else annoyed at the animated eyes?
I wasn't annoyed by it but like I mentioned in my previous post to this thread, it really gives off a cartoon-y vibe that stands in considerable contrast of the "realistic" approach that the film's directors seem keen to stick toward.

sunshinecorp: OK, this is going to sound condescending, but I don't mean it like that, I honestly just want to know. Aren't you bored of all the superhero hype? Both DC and Marvel? They're becoming the new "zombies".
avatar
DaCostaBR: Not at all. As they make more movies, and start looking for new concepts, it only gets more interesting.
And on top of that there are the comics/superhero properties that lie outside of the traditional Marvel/DC lines. There's a lot of fantastic series published under Vertigo that would make for great TV or film, like DMZ. Branching out further, there's Image Comics (Saga comes to mind here), and Valiant Comics. I for one would think a movie adaptation of Harbinger/Harbinger Wars or Archer and Armstrong would be great, provided they had the right casting and writers/director.
I see they have gone for a more functional, kinda sports athlete look. I think it fits in the current marvel cinematic universe.

I'm dying to see this, Batman vs Superman and X-men apocalypse.

The ASM series was dead well before Sony went to Marvel, hat in hand, and begged to be let into the MCU. The failure of ASM2 is what forced Sony to strike a deal with Marvel. Once that deal was in place, Marvel had nothing to worry about as they essentially took most of the creative control away from Sony (Marvel has over a decade of films already mapped out). The only reason Spidey is in Civil War is because a) it was the easiest way to introduce him to the MCU before his solo film and b) Spidey is a core part of the Civil War storyline in the comics (it basically ruins his life), so assuming they are still using some of the framework from the comic storyline, he is a core part of the movie.

The eyes might seem cartoony, but they are very accurate to the comics; his eyes have been doing that in the comics since Steve Ditko drew him. Also, if you listen closely to the trailer, you can hear a slight mechanical whirr when they change shape, so unlike the comics, his expressive eyes might actually have an explanation in the MCU.

I'm actually wondering if the MCU Spiderman movie will be based on the storyline with the Scarlet Spider team.
you know what's funny about this trailer? how people are liking Spiderman's costume, or rather, are not absolutely rolling their eyes at it.

a few years ago a costume like that would have prompted all kinds of heckling for fakeness. but now? nobody cares. even the eye thing. people like it.

what the hell happened?

we have come a long, long way from a critically-acclaimed, respected comic book movie being Unbreakable. which is still one of my favourite comic book movies btw.
Will the real Spider-Man please stand up?

Elmofongo: Once again the Tobey Maguire Spiderman suit is the Master Race:
All these other Spider-Men are just imitating. Tobey Maguire is the only real Spider-Man.
