I've bought recently a couple of obscure oldies, amongst them PC version of StateShift.

After installation (no issues) I can't launch it, due to really weird error - requirement to put "original DVD" in my DVD-drive. I've got still disc inside... But it's not DVD, it's CD. And it's for 100% original game. There are NO other discs.

What's even more odd, error message is shown in polish language (I've got polish version of WIndows 8.1 64 bit on my PC), while entire game + installer were english only (+ some other languages, but there wasn't even trace of polish language).

I've got literally no idea how to deal with it - I was trying to search through the internet, but most info about this game is regarding PSP version.

So you have brought a physical copy of an old game? The error boxes normally show in the language of the operating system, in this case I would expect the issue to be linked to some sort of drm on the disc - at least one of the disc check drms was removed in win 10 for instance. You could look for a nocd patch, these are user hacks which replace certain files which have the disc check in place - illegal if you don't own a copy, and even grey with a legal copy. Be sure to virus scan thoroughly etc. Are you 100% sure the disc you have is legit? A fake copy might be rejected.

Yup, it's for 100% original game, I've even compared it with scans from Mobygames, to be sure.


Anyway, I was hoping for some different solution, than, you know, downloading some file (sorry for being so cryptic, but THEY are looking) and replacing some similar file with downloaded one.

But appareantly there is no other way, so I've done it and now game is working absolutely fine. Thank you for your advice!

No worries, I don't think anyone will jump on you for applying patches to a game you own. It's a grey area, but most devs either don't exists or support any further anyways. Gog utilisise some of these to eradicate drm from old games. Enjoy.
