Ponczo - I did try twice and got terrible auto responses imo I think you should hire surfer1260 who has been a big help - but your auto support is frustating and useless

Joe_Wobblie: I Uninstalled and reinstalled but can't find the Game - just the GOG file. Where should I be looking if not in GOG?
avatar
surfer1260: You can see in Galaxy where your game has been installed:

Click Owned Games
Right-click your game
Manage installation > Show Folder

Edit:
Sorry, I forgot that Galaxy doesn't run on your system.
I think that Galaxy installs games by default in the subfolder Games in Galaxy's installation folder.
Thanks surfer - there is no games folder in the GOG directory - I will try ONE MORE TIME .. lolol

Look at this picture ...
https://www.gocomputertraining.com/windows-7-start-menu.html

At the bottom there is a search box in your start menu. Type in "Gog Galaxy" or alternatively
"Wing Commander". Right-Click on the result and choose Properties. There you can see
where Galaxy and/or the Privateer game are installed.

lol yes sure you are... that one guy is doing a great job of fixing all the issues marketing makes

no really the support system here is just a total joke with auto tickets getting marked as solved unless people reply to them over and over until the end of time

surfer - I reinstalled but still no luck.

I can find the GOG directory under my C: -> Programs Files (x86) -> GOG Galaxy
There are plenty of files in it but nothing that is executable (.exe) and nothing that says Wing Commander
Lots of .dll and a few .pak files and a few directoies that a quick search yields nothing.
The search also came up blank on Wing Commander

I think they just sent me the COG Galaxy program that won't load

You nailed it - auto tickets to fix marketing goof - I bought the game because it was listed to run under Windows 7 - but I needed 8 to load up the GOG portal and no help after repeated tries into auto hell - except from some nice folks here :)

Could you please send me your ticket ID? It seems that you might have created it under a different e-mail address, which is why I am unable to find it.

As for the automated responses: the quoted one doesn't require replying to it to keep the ticket open and visible for us :)

I did not get a number - here is the full response I got from my first request for assistance. I can send the header if you want. I think what I already posted was my second response. I signed up through my facebook account. Thanks!

Alright, I think I found it using the ticket's title you provided earlier.
For future reference: ticket ID always starts with a hashtag and should be included there somewhere :)

Anyway, you should receive an answer from technical support representative as soon as possible.

Absolutely no #number with any auto response - I can copy them if needed

Here is my order number #32d401ff9bf7

Nothing from support yet - but I am hopeful :)

Falran from GOG Support contacted my and all is good!

I was sent a link to download the game directly - it installed fine and I am set.

I wish I could use the GOG Galaxy platform - someday I will get a new computer but not untill this one dies haha

Thanks for the help from GOG and all others.

Joe_Wobblie: Tech support is all virtual.
This is a confusing complaint. Were you expecting GOG to send someone round to your house?
avatar
Joe_Wobblie: Thanks - tech support may be plan B - I think the real problem is I run Windows 7 (they sold the game as only needing 7) but I need 8
If they say the game runs on 7 then it will run on 7, you don't need Galaxy to play. The issue is GOG pushing Galaxy as the primary way of installing games without making it clear that you don't need it.

@supyreor - what a dumb remark. I sent in a request for help - I got circular auto responses. When I finally did get a response because someone was watching this forum and took the time to connect me with tech support they solved the problem easily. When you look at the screen for the game Privateer - there is nothing saying you need Windows 8 - that was my other complaint. But again, human tach support solved that. You just assumed something else by my remarks - others pitched in with decent advice. Go back under your rock.

As people pointed out, you need to reply to the auto-response to get a person. It even says so in the message you quoted:

Sounds like you didn't.

As I explained in my post (and others did too). The game doesn't need Windows 8. If you can't understand my post then ask questions or just don't reply. I'm guessing you just read the first line of my reply, immediately saw red and wrote an angry reply instead of reading the rest of the post and seeing that I was trying to help.

My advice was sound (if redundant by the time I wrote it). But by all means, throw a wobblie. I guess your username checks out.

supyreor - Let's move on - I have it working now because I was sent a direct link - nothing that was on the site, so I could download it without the GOG platform - I did respond multiple times to the auto help without getting any help.
Yes -your earlier advice was sound and I appreciate it - just not the comment about me expecting someone to come to my house - all is now good - enjoy!

The link the tech support sent you is something you could have freely downloaded from the website yourself. For future reference, if you go to https://www.gog.com/account and select the game you want to download, the link you want is the one that says "Download offline backup game installers". Although they call it a backup, what it really means is the "non-Galaxy version".
