Did you try to post a link in the first topic you tried to open? If yes, that is why it did not work. You need a certain rep for that or use a trick.

They really need a javascript popup to say "As a security measure to reduce spam and improve the quality of the forums, new users must do XYZ blah blah in order to post URLs in the forums. We're sorry for this inconvenience."

Magically dozens of "Why can't I?" posts in the forums and all the human time they waste vanish. :)

hehe, indeed I tried. But the first few times, I didn't see any popup or error messages. It was just standing there, pressing Post and nada, nothing happening. Only the 4th time I tried with 1 sentence post and link, I saw the red error message saying I couldn't post links. Maybe my previous message was too long that bloked the red warning error message?

No, GOG's forum software is pretty old and klunky, it's just not user friendly so people get rightfully confused, you're not alone. :)
