I play a lot of military and tactical video games. Of those games I have a preference for squad-based experiences (actually I prefer these across genres). While I keep hearing game developers endlessly talking about their AI advancements...

... the games they are creating tend to use less and less AI!

Most of these games either use generally terrible AI or off-load all "AI" in favor of multiplayer.

I see an advancement in graphics and map sizes... but almost none in AI.

If I was an MP player I probably wouldn't care, but I prefer SP games and see the off-loading of "AI duties" to MP connectivity often as a slap in the face.

If you are seeing games making big strides in AI, please let me know! I'd appreciate it.

AI was never really good to begin with and games have been multiplayer oriented for like 25 years now. They've been making a slow comeback but AI is always predictable and easy to conquer. I mean, if you play Civ games, you'd often have to crank up the difficulty up to very hard or something like that to get a proper experience (which means getting your enemies to actually do something). Multiplayer is much more fun most of the times.
