I've heard more violent songs in terms of graphic gore and whatnot but I've never heard a more epic verbal smackdown than in Oh Sleeper's "The Finisher". It's part of a concept album detailing the history of humanity from the perspective of Christianity and "The Finisher" details the Second Coming of Christ. In the song, there are epic lines like "Your challenge has been met, 'cause with a breath, I could snap your neck!", "But mark My words, 'cause if that tree keeps them from seeing Me, I'll burn off your limbs; you will never shade again!" or my personal favorite: "You'll bow at my feet or I'll rip out your knees and make of your face all the carnage you crave!" As a Christian myself, hearing those brutal words from the perspective of my God is one of those fist-pumping, adrenaline-flowing moments every time I hear it.
Another song by them has far gorier lyrics, as the title implies: "The Marriage of Steel and Skin". In this song, it's part of another concept album that takes a "what if" perspective: what if, after the Second Coming detailed in "The Finisher", both God and Satan simply disappear? Nonbelievers are confronted by evidence that destroys their unbelief, but they're not sure what belief will do if God is dead. Meanwhile, those with weak faith believe they were living a lie and lose all hope. In the anarchy that ensues, many dark crimes are committed across the world, including one involving the violent abuse of a former pastor's daughter. When this pastor finds out, he goes against everything he preached and seeks out his daughter's abuser, brutally murdering him, as he believes that he will never face consequences from God or from society, since he believes neither exist and thus he thinks he must become the judge in this case. It's an immensely artistic and well-written album as a whole. Some of the more brutal/violent lines are, "I'll marry a blade to his throat!" and "Cut, cut 'til the head comes off... 'til the head comes off! Now you've gotta cut, cut 'til the head comes off... 'til the head comes off!" It's pretty brutal stuff but it all ends with a message of hope when the pastor realizes his mistakes and everyone realizes that the supposed disappearance was merely an illusion from their own eyes.
As a bonus, I love the song later on the album called "[urlhttps://youtu.be/JK9D-P18jpk]The Family Ruin[/url]" where the daughter -- formerly an atheist -- learns of her father's crimes and confronts him. It's a great ironic twist on all of it. "Don't lose control or you will long to go back to this time and rewrite your thought, 'cause you're about to choose what you called 'so ironic'. It's ironic! It's ironic that you're contemplating murder while I'm educating you in mercy!"
