Sometimes I get people who want to be `friends` with me on GOG. There has only ever been couple of people whom I allowed to be a friend because we had had a good chat and played a game. Basically, I knew him a little.

I don`t make friends of people who randomly pop out of nowhere and want to be `friends`, I simply ignore them. In fact many such randoms just want to beg free games.

A word of wisdom:

If you want to be a friend to me or anyone, send a message of why you want to be a friend. Did you play a game with that person and thought they were a good sort to play with? Did they say something in a forum you agree with strongly?

Maybe I forgot who you are, remind me.

Let them know WHY you want to be a `friend`... Or you`ll just be ignored.

Just for your information.

I have collected a total of 18 friends. What are they for? Can they be sold, or converted to store credits? Are those you have talked to more valuable, or do they all have a fixed value?
I don't accept any and I leave my PM open to everyone.

It always sounded kind of elitist, like you needed my approval to talk to me. I don't think so.

Even if I despise you, you have as much right to PM me as someone I love, and shouldn't need to be "friended" to do so.

Not on GOG - it's only greenmangaming where you can trade your friends in for store credits. But it's still good to collect them here because once you find the Horadric Cube you can convert 9 regular friends into one superior friend.

This is not at all about being Elitist. I`m happy to make friends, but I simply need a good reason. I have had too many people want to be `friends` for no reason and a couple just wanted to beg games off me which prompted me to make this thread.

I`m not sure if people even know what a `friend` is nowadays. The best freinds are few, not many.

Sorry for the earnest answer to the brilliant humor, but you're hitting the nail on the head.

Of course "friends" doesn't mean the same thing in social media than it does offline. The good thing is, GOG doesn't get to define what it means (as long as they don't gamify the 'collection' of friends like in your posts). It's up to everyone to decide for themselves.

We'll know more after the next big site update. :-)
